Well said, all the freedom that we take for granted is there because these people were prepared to fight and give their lives to liberate France and ultimately end the war in Europe. Typical French attitude against the Brits though, making out that we didn't play a very big part in it all, strange that over half the troops that went that day were British!

i can't watch the veterans been interviewed without getting a tear in my eye, imagine your mate getting shot through the head right next to you & having to keep pushing forward...these guys certainly put it on the line for this country, todays politicians would do well to remember that !!

Yes thoughts for all those who never came back.Once you have been to one of the cemateries in France or Belgium its brings it home to you how brave these guys were.The ones also who hid their identity to enable them to fight for Britain.And the plaques where it says identity only known to god !
May we never have to go through that again

i have visited the bayeux war cemetery and its shocking how many died doing this one job, 5000 bodies in that cemetery alone R.I.P. we wont forget

pity my dad is not around to tell me the story properly - he landed at dunkirk but thankfully made it back.

we did the cemetries as a school trip many moons ago and even then it had an affect on me, i love my military history and have been to many old veterans in my job and love to listen to them and hope show them that there are still many people who are a lot younger than them who are thankfull for what they did.

i found this today, apparently bedford virginia suffered the highest losses of any town in the states and the d-day memorial is situated there.

Most harrowing place I've been to is split between Auschwitz and the Peace Museum in Hiroshima. Both places reduced us all to silence for hours afterwards..
