he had a plumbed in system. all it did was enable them time to get out, and then it went up again.

              AFFF Extinguisher?

If so then this (poor knockdown and reignition) is a known issue as AFFF is not that good. Zero 360 is, apparently, much better.

re the extinguisher, I said this on another thread

Notice the placement of the fire extinguisher nozzel, pointing at a non-flamable lump of cast iron.... with the 90 degree pattern from that nozzel it wouldnt cover the fuel rail.

Lesson to be learned from this shocking, and very sad incident, which i hope will be sorted by the insurance and lessen what must be the most gutting of sights.

Plumb you extingusher nozzels in a corner at the front, pointing diagonally across the the engine bay. On Cossies this should be the NSF ... as thats where the fuel and wireing is .. a cast iron turbo is less likely to burn than those, even though its the hottest point.

If you have allready plumbed you kits in, change them, the pipes quite cheap when compared to seeing this happen..

As I said over the road.. it sickened me to the stomach to see this..

Very sad to see such a nice car go that way and hopefully he will be able to build it back to what is was or even better.

im the owner of the above car gutted was an understatement spent 5 years of my life building this car for it to be gone in mins the hardest bit knowing there was nothing more i could do to stop it i had a plumbed in fire extingusher sytem which was not only pointed to the turbo as some ppl have commented on but the fuel system on the other side of the engine, the trouble is on a motorway doing the speed limit by the time you realise you are on fire then safetly pull the car over it is too late for you to manually do anything it then took about 15 mins for the fire service to reach us by this time the fire had wel and truelly took hold what i will say about the fire extinguisher is it gave me and my son time to get out safley.
After a bit of disscusion with the insurance company they agreed to let me put her back on the road without catagarisation so the rebuild begun she will be down at national day hopefully finished apart from the wiring i will post some pics of the rebuild in the relevant forum

Glad the car is on the mend and you had a good insurance company on the bright side the only lasting damage was done to your wallet and nothing irreplaceable

Look forward to seeing the rebuild take shape
                        Good luck

equity red star through Adrian Flux, didn't get the full amount that i wanted but they allowed it to be rebuilt using new or refurbished second hand parts. but they have probably given me about 90% of what i require to get her back on the road. just alot of long nights and weekends helping Leigh (LW Smart repairs) and his men. and my family for putting up without me most of the time. unless that's a good thing for them

My first sapphire caught fire, and i've always carried a fire extingisher since, although like you say, on a motorway, you'll only find out when its to late
