As some of you may have read on previous rantings, I was gutted at not being able to come on the Lakes Tour as my car was away having surgery.
I've done the other work on my car, but as a non welder, I decided to ship the car off to have a 5 speed fitted to the RS. Unfortunately, I didn't get the car back in time for the Lakes and am still waiting. So the question is, will I get the car back in time to drive the RS to Le Mans or will I be a passenger?
Good news is that, with the engine out to change the box, I've done a bit of tunnage. When we converted the RS to a flatfront, we also fitted a new Vulcan crossflow when I was a youngster as the insurance on a 2L was too expensive. As the engine has only done about 4k miles since, we have decided to tune the xflow rather than put the old pinto engine back in. So the engine has gone back to Vulcan and to suit their maxiflow head I've had the engine/flywheel balanced, fitted high compression 1300 pocketed pistons, a kent 244 cam & set of shiny 40's. Engine will be done on Tuesday and an mot later in the week, so hopefully I should be cruising on to Le Mans
rather than being a grumpy passenger in a BMW diesel
