  • Le Mans 2009 - will I have a car!?

As some of you may have read on previous rantings, I was gutted at not being able to come on the Lakes Tour as my car was away having surgery.

I've done the other work on my car, but as a non welder, I decided to ship the car off to have a 5 speed fitted to the RS. Unfortunately, I didn't get the car back in time for the Lakes and am still waiting. So the question is, will I get the car back in time to drive the RS to Le Mans or will I be a passenger?

Good news is that, with the engine out to change the box, I've done a bit of tunnage. When we converted the RS to a flatfront, we also fitted a new Vulcan crossflow when I was a youngster as the insurance on a 2L was too expensive. As the engine has only done about 4k miles since, we have decided to tune the xflow rather than put the old pinto engine back in. So the engine has gone back to Vulcan and to suit their maxiflow head I've had the engine/flywheel balanced, fitted high compression 1300 pocketed pistons, a kent 244 cam & set of shiny 40's. Engine will be done on Tuesday and an mot later in the week, so hopefully I should be cruising on to Le Mans rather than being a grumpy passenger in a BMW diesel .

Anyone else going to Le Mans this year? Come say hi!

yep I'm doing Le Mans again this year...going with the RSOC, think there is about 10-12ish RS cars going.

Are you camping the whole time....we old farts stay in a hotel on the Friday night, camp Saturday night and then back to the hotel for Sunday night and home on the Monday

        Hotels, luxury!!!

We're leaving Dover-Calais on Thursday am, camping at Rouen Thursday night and then camping at Le Mans Fri/Sat night. Can't remember which site, but will stick up here when I do! I assume the RS group all staying together, so will have to come find you!

Hoping to get down to the campsites Fri noon, ready for the drivers parade in the afternoon - can't wait!

Good news is that the shiny engine has now been delivered and an mot is booked - hurrah!!

Hoping for some Friday night cruising to run the engine in and then we've booked a rolling road this weekend to put the double springs in the head & get the carbs properly jetted....so dare I say it, we're looking good for Le Mans!

Think I might have a croissant for breakfast to celebrate!

                Hurrah!
Car is mot'd & with 3 days to spare for Le Mans!

Picked up the RS on Saturday and the work is top draw.
Engine/carbs look ace and car is at HT Racing today being set up.
5 speed runs perfectly and the new tunnel is great.
All brake/fuel lines now run inside the car & the new ali tank in the boot looks smart.

Thanks to Aled/Taff/Gary for help sourcing prop/gearbox. Aled the cheque is in the post!

Looking forward to a blast tonight! We're on the ferry Thursday morning, so looking forward to some European cruising! When are you other guys going?

                      scorchio - love it!

Got the car back from HT Racing and it's awesome!
Made 120hp and 110torques which is cool, but it feels an awful lot more....sounds like a bag of nails 3-4k, accelerates hard 4-5k, then pulls silently through 5-6k...

Scared myself a few times so have ordered a hi-spec big disc set up last night!

We are in Beauséjour camp site - decent map here.

Putting stickers on tonight - can't wait!
