How many Mk2 RS2000 produced?

Anyone have a good source for production numbers?

Fast Ford special magazine on Escorts says 25000 including South Africa and Australia. All European RS2000 built in Saarlouis

Jeremy Walton's Escort book say 10000. All built in UK.

A prestigious German Magazine has a cover article in its current issue and says 12345 were built.

What a mess!

Surely there must be some better figures out there?

As far i have been able to gather around 1000 rs2000,s were built in SA between 78 to 80.

The RSOC have no access to Ford's archive that I have been made aware of.

A lot of "official" statistics banded around about MKI and MKII's is unproven and made up of "he said she said crap" over the years.

Hence the need for RS owners to register their vehicles with their respective registrars - This way chassis number patterns begin to form and any info given by owners is hopefully "fact" as they own the car.

Until such time as Ford release official build figures I suggest any information gained, heard or speculated about is treated as possible and may well not be fact !
