              It's almost impossible to get over 80ibls/ft a litre from a N/A 2 valve per cylinder engine (pinto , x-flow etc) and 90 ibls/ft a litre from a N/A 4v per cylinder engine (YB ,XE , zetec , BDA etc) .
Both the pintos are almost achieving the max torque that is theoretically available from 8 valves so it's job done as far as the scientists are concerned .

The problem with "machines that measure things" is that most of them are useless plus they still need to be operated by humans . This last factor alone leaves the readings from the "machines" subject to flattery if the operater does not use them correctly . This Dyno-Dynamics machine is operated by someone whos after the truth and in some cases the truth hurts .

Here's a table of possible max ibls/ft a litre for top notch engine builders to try and achieve . Obviously doing it on a proper machine that's being operated correctly is the key .

PINTOS and any other N/A 2 valve per cylinder engines :
                  2.0 litre = 160 ibls/ft
                  2.1 litre = 168 ibls/ft
                  2.2 litre = 176 ibls/ft
                  2.3 litre = 184 ibls/ft
                  2.4 litre = 192 ibls/ft
                  2.5 litre = 200 ibls/ft

YB , XE , Zetec , BDA , Warriors and any other N/A 4 valve per cylinder engines :
                  2.0 litre = 180 ibls/ft
                  2.1 litre = 189 ibls/ft
                  2.2 litre = 198 ibls/ft
                  2.3 litre = 207 ibls/ft
                  2.4 litre = 216 ibls/ft
                  2.5 litre = 225 ibls/ft

If you're still paying attention then i hope that this helps weed out the dodgy power figures that most rolling roads dish out to the unsuspecting public on a daily basis .

Here's another good pinto from my graph collection . This one is a 2.2 Vulcan engine in Eddie's white Rs2000 mk2 .

Also whilst on the subject of torque is also worth mentioning that once the "peak" torque is reached the trick is too keep as much of it for as long as possible . For example Andy Harris' pinto engine holds onto it's torque for much longer than the other 2x engines i've posted up can manage . It has over 20ibls/ft more than the other 2x engines at high revs even though the "peak" reading is the same . Not easy and a sign of a great motor

Here's another one from this week . Stonking pinto this in Ron Harris' mk1 Escort . Proper billet stroker crank and longer rods in this one , look at the torque as it'a almost hitting the 2.2 litre 8 valve target figure . Top stuff

I agree that Rolling Road figures vary between companies this is why I only ever use the same Rolling Road (Hi-Tech Motorsport) to set-up my car.

I dont worry what results are actually achieved - it is the measurement achieved on each visit that counts. This way I can make reasonable comparisons between upgrades or adjustments I have made to the car/engine.

Mick at Hi-Tech is proper Old Skool and his equipment may also be Old Skool but his technical skill, experience and knowledge pays dividends when dealing with motors of our era.

Sounds like a good place mate . Experiance is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to the set up of these things . Most people chuck 15bhp in the bin because they don't set up stuff right compared to an experianced dyno operater . Ignore the "numbers" on these graphs as this dyno doesn't flatter but i can assue you that these engines are all monsters

Totally agree as have always said

"The bullshit stops when the chequered flag drops"

And after seeing the MKI's going down the Pod shows just how good they are.

                                Keep up the good work
