Opinions please

As many of you know i have my mk1 mex and my mk2 mex, and was wondering what are peoples opinions of putting the mk2 back together sticking a 2ltr with 5 speed and electronic ignition and using her as an everyday car.
My mileage is about 250 miles a week all motorway but only every other week as i car share, the car would have lots of waxoil etc and would be garaged every night.
At the mo i do it in my mk2 golf gti which is ok, but doing this gives me more of a reason to keep my mk2 as i want to start to restore my mk1 next year.

All opinions and ideas welcome and also who else uses there rs as an everyday car

No problems as far as the RS is concerned. I must admit to personally having got used to elec. windows, adjustable mirrors, aircon, airbags, power steering etc. etc. and couldn't put up with the RS day-in, day-out. If you're transferring from a Golf II you'll find the RS sadly lacking in aspects like windscreen demisting, windscreen wipers in rain etc., etc.

I ran mine for a year when I first got it. Had no probs at all apart from the wheels corroding with all the salt!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MK2 heaters arn't the best things in the world but I was lucky as mine was red hot

I ran mine snow and all, but I agree that when the windows misted up it was a pig to clear with the crappy fan, heat was good

and if like me you have a custom SS exhaust the noise got a bit much at times

I enjoyed it though and all the looks you get too, makes it worthwhile :flower:

Used my past RS's on a daily basis , OEC that Karl Lucas owns and shows now used to ferry me and my mates to work every day (even with the IDF's on) sat in the carpark with seagulls dancing on it , went on holiday from up North around Devon in it and generally used it at all other times. Didn't do it any harm as Karl is still picking up trophys with it.

i use my 1300 ghia day in day out, and apart from the bvious demisting problems (which isnt helped by the fact my heater matrix is disconnected) i find it great fun. you get all the looks, people let you out, you have some great conversations (aswell as the usual, i had one of these when i was a nipper chat). plus modern trickery pokery isnt all its cracked up to be. i dont miss any of it, the only thing that is noticable compared to a normal car is that you have to give it a few squirts of additive when you fill up. not to mention its great fun in the wet etc

I used my Harrier (modified X-flow 40's etc etc) for about 3 years. To commute to work (40 mile round trip)

Then I got my Mexico and used that for a daily 70 mile round trip commute to work (differnet job btw)

After that I had a Mk1 Golf Gti 1800 which replaced the Mex for commuting duties (I still had the Mex and the Harrier) - the Golf was more comfortable, quieter, faster, better fuel economy better heater, cheaper spare parts (Euro car spares are wonderful!) and I sold it for a £ 700 profit after adding 20,000 miles to the clock.

I commute in a Mk3 Gti 16v Golf now - or on my Bike - the Mk2 is not something I would use every day anymore. For all the reasons stated above plus one more - I wouldn't want some gimp to crash into the Mk2 - a Golf is easily replaced !!

Thanks for the comments guys - starting to re-think and maybe just put mk2 back on road as cheaply as i can for next ready to take mk1 and restore.
Like rob says he would be afraid of someone hitting it and what with the muppets that drive the m27 everyday i can see her getting pranged.
