Another point that myself and my dad dissagree on is how long it should be he thinks 6ft is enough but i think it needs to be at least 8ft idealy 10ft what do you guys think.

the longer the better as once the car is over it you can get to it all not haven to get out and push/pull it

not being at all funny, but, why do you actually need a pit ?

id spend my cash on a decent low level jack and some good heavy duty axle stands - lets face it, theres not really a lot of jobs on our cars that really require under neath operations apart from gear box, prop etc, and they aint that difficult to remove once on stands - all other jobs are via the wheel areas and the via the bonnet to the engine

i just filled my inspection pit in....tough bloody job, 16ft x 6ft x3ft....to dangerous for when the kids are around and besides that i would never have used it...the guy who built it was an agricultural mechanic so he had plenty of use for it....im gonna get a 2 post lift instead at some stage....

Well guys i did the ispection pit with the help of an out of work builder and he had two goes at tanking it with a damp proof menbraine and then gave up with it and built it without tanking so now it fills with about 10in of water over 24hrs i now have to find a way of waterproofing it now it is built and was wondering if anyone has experience of this.The best idea i have at the moment is plaster it with mortar then paint it with bitumen paint, i have seen paint on damp proof membrain but as it will have to go on the floor as well i dont know how hard wearing this would be but if anyone knows or has any other ideas i would be glad to hear from you, thanks.

render the blockwork with concrete then paint it with G4 pond sealer, we use it for waterproofing koi ponds

Was trying to dig out a sump tonight to make it easier to pump out the water when it fills and my sthil saw will only build up revs while held upside down and as soon as tipped up the right way it dies down to barely ticking over at full throttle and if you try to cut with it the blade just stops.

think your stihl needs a service this usually happens when the airfilters are very dirty take them out clean them well, happens to us quite often ,its usually a quick fix,also if you put waterproofer into the render in both scratchcoat and finish coat will help before you paint it

Maybe thats why he is out of work, gives up to easy, don't mean to diss him if he's a friend but did you ask for a fish pond under your car in the garage?
