    Too right !

    Now we give them work.
    Money
    A place to live
    ...and drink

They seem to want to take up the last option mostly

You cannot move to another country to take advantage of what the country has to offer, then start demanding change in that country to accomodate your relegion and beliefs. I moved to the United States because I felt there was better opportunities for me and my family and not to undermine the very fabric of its society. Yes mistakes were made here to Native Americans, and it has been a long struggle for them , but those who want to partipate in what this country has to offer instead of knocking it will do well.
I do agree with the basic format of Kevin Rudd,s Ideal maybe his statement could have been edited slightly but the message remain the same. Muslim countries will not accomodate your way of life ie. drinking of alcaholic beverage being one example and women not having the same social status as men, but they move to the UK and want things changed to accomodate them.

Just for arguments sake lets say a good few thousand British Christians decide to become immigrants in Iran, Bangladesh (or another Muslim Country)

First we tell the local authorities that we need a house and money to buy food. Then we request that they give us more money for cars, heating and clothes. Then we tell them that we are being picked on so now want our own Schools and communities so we can all live happily together.

Now we have all this we then request that they build us a Christina Church so we can worship our Lord in our comfortable environment.

And we now want to put back into the community so can you please give us all jobs as we feel that we are being victimised and not given jobs as they are being given to the local people.

We are now taking over and insist that we are given special rights as we are now the majority not the minority and expect to have the laws changed to suit us.

Possibilty of this happening..... I don't think so
        Cheers

Despite what you may think I was "not" having a go at you, but it is not the first time that the head of state in Australia, instead of trying to smooth things out has rather poored oil on the fire. I don't think this is a particularly helpful way to resolve conflicts, but there.

lso I was also referring to the race riots in "England" not in OZ, so why refer to "your paki-bashing"? I'm saying that having noticed there being an increase in nationalistic sympathy, rather than encourage it he should be trying to calm the situation, or else the result will indeed be minorities be targeted for attack by certain groups of people.

As for others suggesting a move one of these countries where some of immigrants come from, well surely that's the point, we are lucky to be living in societies that are tolerant, I would like to remind those self-righteous out there that it wasn't so long ago that all sorts of groups weren't accepted in the mainstream, from unmarried mothers to gays etc etc.

We've only learned to be tolerant over the last 25 years, so there's no grounds for people to get on their high moral horses.

PS from memory, Mr Rudds' statment was made at a time when a car bombing, in england was traced back to "those People", who were linked to an Australian, place of worship.

So this statment, can easliy be taken out of context, now....................still agree with it

                        Hi Roger,

when the Europeans went to America the natives (i.e. Indians) did just that: drink the alcohol provided by the "visitors".
Things like complete nations moving happened centuries ago in Europe, everyone moves up a place (Russians to current Germany, Kelts to UK etc). In the modern era (say after WW2) though it is accepted that everyone stays where they are and everything stays as it is.

For some reason I do like Australia, the country and the people.
Even after seeing the movie "Rabbit proof fence".
                        Take care, Leon.

I love the fact that the English are more than happy to start criticising every other country for it's supposedly racist ways.

                            1) I didn't vote for Kevin Rudd and his views aren't mine.
                            2) Minority is exactly that. A small group of self interested people seeking to change something for their own benefit. Democracy is absed upon the views of the majority hence K. Rudd is PM.
                            3) No one should be forced to change their views but to assimilate into the ways of life of the country you've adopted is surely not unreasonable.

A lot of Australians view many of the things in this countries past as shameful. However, the fact that the English transported starving people for helping themselves to a loaf of bread seems to be lost here. Then, 200 years later when they realise the mistake they made in allowing this to happen decide they're going to come here in droves and talk rubbish behave like idiots. Glass House Stone anyone.

I wonder how the Scottish feel after being occupied and denied self rule for how long?

none of this includes Wayne who's behaving exactly like an Australian RS owner should.

I think that this issue is way too serious for a forum that has spent a whole bunch of time on processed meats and brown sauce discussions.
