  • Classic Ford, future classic?

Every month in Classic Ford magazine we ask forum members to discuss whether a 'new-school' Ford is classic material or not.

So… for the next issue let us know your thoughts on the Series 2 Escort RS Turbo. Classic in the making? Or will it always live in the Series One’s shadow, and forever be part of the ‘chipped-up, leathered-up, huge 18s’ brigade?

    Here are some facts:
    Made between: 1986-1990
    Engine: 1596cc CVH turbo
    Drivetrain: fwd
    Power: 132

We’ll print the best responses (either for or against) in the mag.

Oh, and BTW we are NOT starting to feature these cars in the mag – it’s just a bit of fun for the news pages!

I think it will be a "classic" in a few years but as of now its still a boy racer car, baseball cap and all for the most.

it will never have the cache of the series 1 ? and imo does not look half as nice, even though I'm not a big fan of mk3 escorts its the one I would want, the series 2 would be a cheaper option for someone looking to get into RS ownership

Had one many years ago and didn't rate it compared to the Series 1.

Not a classic IMO but 100 times better than the MK5/6 Escort that was brought out afterwards

RS1600i & RS Turbo Series 1 are Classics and I'd rather have an early XR3/XR3i than a Series 2 RS Turbo
                Cheers

Eventually will be a classic if not already, problem with the S2 is it's very close to being a mainstream car whereas the RS1600i and S1 were Motorsport and SVE vehicles respectively, Nigel.

As with most RS's its the standard, original , low milers that are the ones people want, unfortunately the S2 Turbo seems to have fallen into the hands of the stick on chrome brigade. I think eventually the original ones will be collectable and already looking through ad's these are the ones that stand out amongst the hoards of modified tat.

                    cheers, Paul

they may be getting old but the'll never be old school, keep em in performance ford with their loud stereo's and FWD

                      P.S. i don't like em

Not bad but a few years to go imo

They will become a classic in a few years but still look a bit modern, nice to sit in and if not messed about with they are a good daily driver.
For a wizzbang they give good mph/mpg and a good first route into RS ownership.
Once the baseball cap brigade grow up they will become a sort-after motor but that is a few years off yet.
                        Cheers
