  • Finding Reg plate just on VIN?

Hi guys, my mate has a mk1 shell thats been languishing for years but it came with no logbook or plates. We removed the strut top repair it had and low and behold the chassis number was luckily still underneath on the original top How can we find out the original reg for it? The chassis number is BBATPG03538. (December 74 shell, 2 door) The final digit looks like a 3 but must be a badly stamped 8 as it isnt the same style font as the other 3's. So maybe vin is BBATPG03533? Shell was definatly originally red

Please please help, as if we can trace the original reg, hes going to restore it back to totally original (we think its a boggo 1100/1300L)

Thanks in advance guys and gals

    regards
    Danny

Danny you need to HPi the chassis number.
If HPi have any records, it will tell you any registration numbers that have been attached to the VIN number.

The only note of caution is, why was the car sold without log book or vin tags..??
Was the ID put on another car..??
Or did it come with the number plates etc, but your mate has misplaced them..??

I believe after years of changing houses etc hes lost the plates. Do i need to ring HPI direct then Mark, as the HPI checks that are online all ask for the reg number? Many thanks for your input though Mark, very much appreciated

Either try contacting them direct or if you have a friendly local car dealer that is registerd with HPi they should be able to help.

If I remember correctly there used to be someone on turbosport who offered HPI checks. Can't remember who though...
