I got this email from the FTA, beware out there all LGV drivers
SECURITAS uniforms stolen in Manchester – bulletin 2
Further to our Theft Alert! e-mail issued last Thursday we have received the following information from VOSA.
There has been a previous incident involving a 'bogus' VOSA vehicle and, due to the geographical proximity of this theft, there are serious concerns that another similar crime may be being planned.
VOSA has announced that for the time being all static road checks, (ie. where the stopper / enforcement officer stands at the roadside and directs vehicles to stop) have been cancelled in the Manchester and Liverpool area.
Members are asked to note the following VOSA advice to vehicle operators: If one of your vehicles is directed into a check site by VOSA officials or a VOSA liveried vehicle and you or the driver have concerns regarding the authenticity of the check please follow these guidelines.
*All VOSA checks are 'logged on' with local police forces. Your local police force will be able to confirm if the check is an authentic VOSA roadside check. The driver can do this before opening either the window or door of the vehicle
*You could issue your drivers with a contact list for VOSA offices, or during office hours they may contact tel: 0117 954 2632 and VOSA staff will be able to confirm the identity and authenticity of the roadside check
*All VOSA vehicles have roof bar matrix systems. VOSA do not use vehicles with rear window matrix signs. If a supposed VOSA vehicle attempts to stop one of your vehicles and has a rear window matrix system please ask the driver to contact the police or his office immediately and do not stop
*VOSA stopping officers wear black trousers, white shirt, black tie and VOSA hi-viz jackets. If it is a static stop, rather than a vehicle stop, the stopping officer will also wear a peaked cap. Any other uniform is not an authentic VOSA stopping officer and the driver should contact the police or his office immediately and not to stop
*All genuine VOSA roadside staff will be wearing VOSA hi-viz jackets and displaying warrant cards showing their name and photograph Anyone with information which could be relevant to this theft is asked to contact Manchester Police on tel. 0161 872 5050 or Crime Stoppers on tel. 0800 555 111 .
