This might spark a reaction from some of you. Was reading the latest Rallye News at work yesterday. Read the article about the 3 door Cosworth in black with only 5,000 miles on the clock. Now, this was a very interesting and entertaining read. But I must say that it ANNOYED THE HELL OUT OF ME. Here we have a fantastic car which has NEVER been driven the way it was intended to. Non of the 2 owners have ever had any pleasure from this car by driving it. The car, when bought by it's second owner had been stood for 12 years without turning a wheel and whilst still in original condition was, in fact absolutely useless due to all the seals etc being perrished. The new owner totally stripped the car and prepared it for concourse and obviously made a fantastic job of it as it won car of the day at National day. The next day, he sold the car to someone who, in his eyes "Wrecked" it by driving it!!!!!!!!!! Now, to me. This is what the car was intended for. The new owner now, getting all the pleasure from the car which the former owners didn't.

I can see both points of view and really it's down to the owner wot he does with the car. It's nice to see mint one owner cars at shows and stuff but theres nothing like being out in one doing what it was built for. Just my two pence worth!!Ex-Chairman of 'The Clique'

Taking a mint car to shows or entering concours is getting pleasure from a car, yes its not the same as driving it but each to their own. I had this arguement recently about my RS500 which funnily enough only has 5k miles on it, I dont drive it but thats my choice and I do get pleasure from the car at shows every time its out on display
Fortunately Im in a position where I can afford to have more than 1 car so I have the 500 for show and DDA for fun.

i can see both sides cos i used to concourse but then had a labottomy and all polish banished to the bin !!!!!!!!!!!!
yes the fella who restored that cossy worked hard to do so but lets get it right it was only 5000 miles old !!!!! not even had its first service !!!!!!!!
concourse is a life changing hobby and must be left to people who are loaded (neil :thumbleft: :queen: ) or just down right nutters
all our cars are our toys and how we use em is up to us but once you have had driven any RS preferbly rwd on a track/airfield the smile will be very hard to shift long live the mk2 !!!!!!! sideways of course

I think, if your pockets are deep enough, there are lots of retro/older cars which would be nice to buy "new" NOW..and use as daily drivers, rather than mundane Mondeos etc..
eg RS2 of course..
Sunbeam Lotus
Opel Manta 400
But maybe it's being a 70's child that causes it!!

I obviously see both arguements & agree with Fraz re: showing - but perhaps the novelty hasn't worn off yet ?
To combine both sides of the coin, I see 3 alternatives:
1] Join the Custom in 'Show & Thrash' class.
2] Funds allowing - have one of each!
3] Do like the 's do - park up the car in the concours area & hang around Custom, Mex1T & Lee scrounging lifts round the track ! :thumbup:
I am hoping to go with option 2 eventually, but for now will have to carry on with option 3 !!!

shiny nuts or not?
Well, I have to say that after 2 "Best MK2 RS Escort" trophies on the shelf, it is hard keeping the Escort in top shape all year round then getting out the polish 2 months before our OZ RSOC COncourse. Working at the Steel works and getting all manner of crap over the car all year and all hours( I use the RS 2 as a daily driver), it is hard work but I enjoy getting together with the Members to catch up with a story or 3.
The RS is over 20 years old now and I would like to put it in the shed and restore it. One problem is that I just gotta drive it! Nothin' is like the RS!
