Got £50 scrap value for a 2 door MK2 Escort 1.1 pop or pop plus in about 1985/86. Car was solid, but no one wanted them with a 1.1 engine so scrap man took it away
Hi mate , I pretty sure it started FKJ or something and was an "L" reg . I sold it to a German bloke called Joackim Appel who fully restored the car back in Germany to a mega high standard . I got the engine re-built for him by Phil Jones in Bristol as noboby in Germany would do it . I wonder were it is now , i'm sure he sold it back to a bloke in England a few years later .

Sounds like FKJ 687L I'd got the reg jotted down from when someone rang me to say it was for sale.
My Tawny RS1600 was SPU 306K bought in bits with loads of panels. I bought that in 1993 I think, then sold the car & kept the panels.
I recently found a picture of SPU 316K which was a Tawny RS1600 as well.
So there were a few Tawny cars by the look of it.

Yes that reg no rings a bell mate . I've seen a few Tawny Brown RS1600's over the years , even the Royal Family had a Brown BDA (Prince Micheal of Kent i think) so Brown is the new Silver

Ahh i see , i saw WOO 983L at a car show for sale about 15 years ago and all remember was that it was Brown . Not many Tawny Brown Rs1600's then so FKJ 687L should be easy to spot lined up with all the yellow and white cars then . I've never seen it yet though

Sold my mk1 Mexico in 1980 for £750. It was Modena green with lovely grey contour seets.Bought a 76 P reg white mk11 broadstripe for £1450 so it was about four or five years old. I ran it for six months and sold it to a dealer for £1850 then i bought an Insurance wright off mk1 Rs2000 for £600 all it needed was wheels and seats. Sourced the parts from freinds and sold it back to the origional owner for £1400.I bought a 77 R reg mk11 rs2000 It needed a respray and ns door. I kept this car untill i got married in 1983 sold it and bought a cheaper mk1 rs 2000.By the tine i sold it in 1985 everyone was looking to buy Xrs and i struggled to get £1350 for it
would happily rumage around that yard all day long
Reminds me of the scrappers in the early eighties full of Escorts, Crapis, Cortina's and wouldn't it be great to be able to go back in time and save them!!!!
