it seems to me everybody advertises there classic car/bike stating owners club valuation then asking less than its valued for

my thoughts on this subject is that the owners club officals own these sort of cars/bikes and its of interest for them to try and keep the prices up and its not a true value

ps this is not a comment at vinny before he gets on his high horse i state cars and bikes

my opinion is if you don't think a car is worth what the owner is asking then don't buy it!! simple.

i value my marque quite high yes, but the demand out ways the cars available, and the cars when advertised do usually sell at that price stated, so i cant be far out on the valuations

registrars cannot value there own cars btw

my view on an owners club valuation is what it would cost you if the worst should happen to buy a similair car and get it to the standard that your original one was that the valuation was based on

My recently sold Mk2 RS 2000 was valued at 12 by the RSOC I advertised it for 10 and it sold for that figure in the end with few people fighting over getting here first, so maybe a bit too cheap, but I bore the current economic situation in mind when I decided on that figure

on the other hand if some oik had decided to relieve me off it prior to sale and I had 12k from the insurance company to buy another nice broadstripe could I have found one and got it to the same standard ?? maybe/maybe not

we all know what parts cost for our cars, and if they need welding/painting proper jobs are not cheap, when you bear in mind all our cars are 30ish years old now you will never find another the same as yours, eg it may be better in some places worse in others

it's a very subjective matter but a pretty good guidance of what a car is worth, at the end of the day the people that value these cars through the clubs KNOW them, and can spot all the little differances that may make 2 cars that look overly similar from the outside very differant values due to originallity

phew that was my longest post ever I reckon

you want it you buy it, you don't want it you leave it there

you can afford it you buy it, you can't afford it you leave it there

whats it worth????? whatever is paid for it!!!!

if it increases in value, great

if it goes down in value, so be it

you pay your money and take your choice

as long as YOUR happy with YOUR car, who gives a fukc

just enjoy them you puffs, we'll all be dead soon

my reading on this is that its a dig at the valuations done by the officials

its the officials valueing the cars for THEIR own benefit

I have the task of doing the Twin Cam valuations for the AVO owners club.
I would have to say I value cars along the lines of what Glyn posted above.
A car I valued at AVO national day in June actually sold two weeks ago for £500 less than my valuation.
So I guess most valuations are within £1000 either way of a cars true value.
If the owner wishes to ask less than the valuation that is up to them.
I think you will find nice examples of Twin Cams RS1600's & RS1800's will always sell quite easily at there valuation price,in some cases more if the car hasn't been valued for a couple of years.
With RS2000's & Mexico's being more readily available both Mk1's & 2's there is a little more competition in the market place to sell cars, values can seem to be 3 or 4K apart for similar looking cars, but as stated above the price that the buyer & seller agree is any items value at that moment in time.

As an example back in 2002 my 4 Door Mexico was valued at £7500
I couldn't replace it for that, if it was a total loss as there is not another car the same out there.
When I came to sell it I could not get a penny more than £4000 for it as a Tawny Brown 4 Door Mexico isn't the most desirable car out there.
So even if a car is rare it doesn't automatically mean it's desirable.
So sometimes it's not that straight forward to put a value on a vehicle.

The people that do value these cars are true enthusiasts that have been around these cars for years & have a good idea of the cars current value.
You will find a lot of the owners who advertise cars with club valuations will have spoken to the model registrar that has valued the car to seek advice on what price to market the car at.

So to sum up the advertisers selling below the club valuation are no doubt looking for a quick sale, if they have a desirable car it will be bought in no time.
On the downside there are people that are now feeling the pinch due to the so called "credit crunch" so I personally think the average escorts will take a little longer to sell, as the guy selling is targeting the man who's not buying. Both for the same reason.
                Mark....

insurance values are normaly higher than what the vehicle is worth , as in the case of total loss, you are going to spend a lot time and money searching for another and that does not come cheap, as i am sure steven you are beginning to realise as you have now paid fuel and taken time out to go and see a load of old sh***ers.

                      Some constructive posts on here

In my opinion Classic Cars (whether Ford or not) that are owned by people have a market value and an agreed valuation price. But this does not matter unless you are selling due to financial pressures, a change of direction or god forbid someone steals it or it is involved in an accident.

A parallel example is the Stock Market. If you owned 10,000 of shares in Company A and they were £1 a share 6 months ago and are now 50p a share you have not lost any money (unless you bought them for a quick profit). The only time that they gain or lose money is the day you come to sell them.

Personally I own 2 RS's and if tomorrow the market fell out of them and they were only worth £3k each then this does not bother me as I have no intention of selling them (unless I can get hold of an RS1800 ) and if the prices do drop that much then I'd expect the parts for sale to drop in line with the car prices.
                      Cheers

steven, i like the thinly veiled line that its not aimed at m8, yet within a day of putting my rs2 for sale on here you post it.
When the green rs2 was put up i didnt see you saying anything about the price
The reason i put the car up for less the the value is plain and simple, i know at the moment it is a buyers market and i want to sell it sooner rather than later.
I think your also trying to stir things up saying that it is in the registars own interest to keep values high.

It does make me wonder if you are genuine or not (did you find a car) or that you simply post on here to stir up trouble or maybe your already a member on here who is using a different log in name.

got me wrong vinny not bought one yet yes its a buyers market as for thr owners club statement it happens in most clubs not having a pop at this site i have lots of classic bikes that owners say they are worthh xxxx but they are not but to be honest the restored bikes are probably worth more broke and sold as spares

i always do research on buying something before jumping in with both feet i do believe its cheaper to buy a restored car than it is to buy one to restore

but is a restored rs2000 worth more sold in parts than you will get for it complete as a front grill just did £700 on ebay
