Anyone use a log burner?

Does anyone on here use a log burner as there source of heating ? If so how good are they in terms of good heating and comparable to a gas fire ?

Did you have to line your chimney and did you do it yourself ? How hrad a job is it ?

We have a gas fire at the moment and a flue liner but apparantly there is a difference between a gas and sold fuel liner so i would need to renew this .

I can get wood for nowt from work so after the initial outlay of the log burner it wont cost me **** all to run.

So after filling his whole living room with soot he set about lining the chimney breast.

He said it's the cheapest and best source of heat, as it warms his whole downstairs and cost is ****all as he gets his wood for nothing.

fireplace is allready done and a gas stove in there at the moment , its just the lining of the chimney that i will have to do.

if you can get wood for nothing go for it when we put it in the boy in the shop said it goes on room size but when i saw the burner it looked a piddle wee thing so went for a bigger one if you stook it up you have to open all the doors and heat the whole house the good thing is you can stoock it up and go out and the house is hot when you get back lot cheaper than gas

you will defo need to change the linner in the cimmney gas one will use either a 6" or 9" copex there will be a difference in the heat going up the flue with the log burner probably need to change to ceramic linner also need to clean chimmney more often as wood the wood burns it produces a resin in the smoke which clings to the linner if its an old house you might be ok if the wood burner is using the old chimmeny

we had a coal fire when we moved in, and used to burn allsorts on it

bit strange as the house was built in 1985

too much hassle for us and soon went to a gas fire

we had one also gaz, use to put out loads of heat, replaced it with an open fire that we use sometimes in the winter

they burn a lot of wood Gaz one of the lads as one and hes looking for wood all the time and you can not just burn any old wood it as to be paint and nail free logs are the best he reckons and they are very cheap and greta for heating the house

I have cut about 20 tons of wood for my house this winter.
I'm not sure it will be enough. Yes they use a lot of wood!
It's very hot in here though.
