  • Anybody in the car trade?

What way are things over there? It has not been so quiet since 99.
Petrol went up yesterday 8cent,Road tax up 4% and new car purchase price up 1/2%. It is dire, the recession is truely hitting us and they say its only the start of it. Second car prices are dropping like stones it will cost twice as much to change next year so people will not change. Completly depressing!!!!!

i make car tyres for pirelli. we are currently the only tyre factory in the pirelli group still running 7 days a week . italy, spain & turkey on short time.
we normally make 14000 tyres a day, they have just reduced our output to 8000 tyres a day. complete overtime ban, and some workers down to 32hrs per week, instead of 40 or 48. giving us an extended break over christmas ( un-paid) . think we may go to a short week if things dont start picking up soon.
with new car sales at a low, new tyres not needed either.

Had about ten people in today. Either they had odd ball stuff(sanyong, chevrolet, renault) or they owed thousands more than the car was worth. Then if someone is ok and you try for finance not a hope. We are brasing ourselves for another year of it.But hopefully it wont take that long.

No different over here either, Car sales down the toilet. We make Trade show Cases and touring cases for bands, one of our biggest customers is Hewlett Packard, last year we built about 80 big cases for them, this year 2 , but George Bush tells us we are not in Recession just a period of economic slow down. mmmmmm
