  • RS1800 Book Review

I have a book review to write. Rather than write it from just my view point.
I'd like to know what those of you who have read the book think of it.
I'm looking for honest opinions, what you liked or disliked, have you learnt anything from reading it..???

Oh yeah nearly forgot, it's Graham Robsons Escort RS1800 book, part of his Rally Giants series. The one pictured below.....

Robson copied several stories from his older books, added all the good bits from this forum (Ex-works cars) and some photos not published earlier and hey presto a new book!

As it's a book about Escorts I had to have it though ...

Didn't I "review" it somewhere on here a couple of months ago? (and I made some disparaging remarks about Subarus which Leon responded to!) - and I'm sure someone else here had commented on it before that.

I had to buy it (along with the RS1600 book), despite reservations about it being a Robson retread of other books/articles, because I got hold of a copy of his book in the same series on "Big Healeys" ("The Austin Healey 100/6 and 3000") from my local library.

I was amazed, not having ever seen Peter Browning's "The Works Healeys", how useful the Robson Healey book was. One aspect he got to grips with was re-shelling (or re-chassising with Healeys). He has made a much better attempt to come to terms with this in the two new Escort books than he has ever done before in "The Works Escorts" or elsewhere.

What I am really waiting for is the promised Cooper/Cooper S book in the same series. Then I can make definitive comparisons.

Summary: the new Escort books are worth buying - and that's from a cynical me, not a blind-to-the-faults rose-tinted spectacle-wearing enthusiast. The cynical bit is that, for a historian, these two Escort books should have instead been a properly revised "Works Escorts" edition. I suspect blatant comercialism but, to be fair, it may be that Haynes would not contemplate a revised "Works Escorts" but Veloce (based 4 miles from me and about 8 or 9 from GR) were prepared to do these.

waited for a long time for it to be on the shelves,
Mr Robson did contact me regarding the road cars, some info was exchanged, and tbh when reading through the book i found it enjoyable, even though alot had been in other publications.
                    The colour photos are good,
would like to of seen it in hard back form
