For some older cars you don't have to pay Road Tax. Pre-Jan 1973.
Originally it was set up (Jan 1998),for cars that were 25 years old and older, however the DVLA have not applied a pro-rata system to allow this to continue for cars which subsequently become 25 yrs. old.
If owners on this site and other vehicle historic based websites were to collectively petition the Government then maybe we could benefit too.
Anyhow, my question is... would you like to save yourselves £200 every year, or aren't you bothered ?
Here's an idea of how simple it would be to register:-
Dear Sir/Madam
Currently cars have to have been constructed before a set date - the
1st January 1973 to be eligible for historic car tax exemption. We the
undersigned would like the date to be moved as it has been fixed for a
number of years. A number of cars which were built in British/German
factories are becoming few and far between and we would like the
Government to help preserve these cars by offering an extension on the
current exemption date.
