MK1 Escorts - when first registered

Just out of interest, when did the MK1 Escort actually appear on the roads, mine is a 1968 G plate and only seen 1 or 2 on a G, but nothing before. Is mine an early Escort??

Ford started production in November 1967.
With a few cars being registerd in the first couple of weeks in January 1968.

The Escort went on sale on January 17th 1968.

As I am a bit older than a lot on this BB I remember seeing F reg escorts on the road.

So a 68 G would have been registered from August onwards.

My 1st Escort was a '68 on an "F" plate with compression struts. I've also seen Ford press photo's of an Escort on a "D" plate!!

.................and wasn't it called the Anglia up to just before it was released. I remember many an "F" reg knocking about.

Yeah but it's on a lot later shell. Later style bulkhead plenum didn't come in until 1970.

I've also seen Ford press photo's of an Escort on a "D" plate!!

My partners first car was a 68 Escort on the F - long gone now.
