  • black beastie woes........................

car now running very well (still not left my gargage yet, was having the timing / Mixture set last night (thanks to Biker 123) and all going well, car revs very smoothly and nice, however after about 20 minutes running, noticed an oil leak on the floor, quite a lot of oil actually

    killed the engine

had a good look around and found that the oil pressure pipe had split near the block, undone the nut, and the split was 3/4 around the pipe.

just so glad it didnt happen on the road,

    Aeroquip line for me.

anyone know who does them with the correct connections to the Dash / sender on block ?

Yes, They will need them for thread sizes etc, or can re-use yours if you like.

For now just screw a standard type oil pressure switch in block - couple of quid from motor spares shop.

Escort tec do a new pipe for pintos not aeroquip though

Threads/couplings are odd sizes though so be carefull if ordering from Pirtek etc

When I first started restoring my car I found traces of oil behind the dash, which was a bit of a mystery, and came to the conclusion that it was a bad connection on the oil pipe to gauge fitting. On contacting the 1st owner of mine nearly 12 months ago now, he told me that he had had a bad oil leak from his oil pipe which wrecked his shoes and carpet as he was driving his car.

He told me that he had some warranty work done at his local Ford garage and returned it to them for the leak to be sorted. On collection, the Service Engineer informed him that they had cured the leak and then explained that when the car was in in previously, the pipe had been disconnected and re-routed the wrong way back across the wiper linkage, and during the rainy weather the wipers had sawn through the pipe which had caused it to leak.

However in the end the outcome turned out to be very favourable as not only was the carpet replaced under warranty with a new one, but the owner was paid out for a new pair of shoes!

common fault the sawing motion of the wiper linkage.

also mentioned in the misters briefcase from the men themselves
