How do you go about changing a private plate from one car to another?

take all the docs into a local dvla office, along with your chequebook

they may need to see the cars in question

both cars must be taxed to do it

if you must do it by post you may have to put the donor reg onto retention first

      Changing registrations

As said before Both cars must be tested and taxed, take both registration documents, test certificates, tax discs.Fill in forms, and pay fee usually about £80 .At Leeds you have to have them all checked, place them in an envelope and leave them Normally about 10 day service,MAYBE if its quiet they may do them then if your lucky. In Leeds they have a floater who goes round and helps with enquierys and problems
