  • The good ole days....................you should have been there #2

when you could walk into the local Bike Shop and see the Entire Raleigh range in the showroom

when you could only dream about owning one,

when you could actually afford one

i remember quite vividly buying my Chopper and wishing i had the extra few hundred quid to buy the Grifter next to it (1979), however the Cycle Proficiency Test was also a "killer" in those days.

remember out on the common, and all you would ever see parked up in the youth club was Chopper's and Grifter's, usually adorned with pairs of air horns.

remember attending the very early meets, and fed up being there because all there were to look at were Raleigh's

going into the bike shop part dept and the guy behind the counter actually knowing what you wanted without looking at Microfiche / Computers, and wanting to talk about "your" Chopper

talking to bog standard Chopper owners whose aspirations were to progress to a 'Black Prismatic' model, and then hopefully an 'Anniversary'

feeling sorry for non raleigh owners whilst down at the youth clubs, Bike snobbery existed in those days

    great days, great memories,

    how about you ?
