Posting this for a mate ..........................

"My name is John from Cork, i was reading about the RS 1800 in one of the classic fords edition lately and as i was reading down along it gave a description of chasis numbers for each RS, the RS Mexico interested me the most and i will tell why, iam restoring a Mark 2 escort at the moment, i have alot of work done to it, it has recently been painted and now iam in the process of putting it back together, being curious i said i would check the chasis number on my car and as it happens the chasis number is GCATRC01232, it read in the edition that any RS Mexico that was manufactured in Germany, their chasis number started with GCAT. Could my car be an RS Mexico????. When i bought the car it was down as being a ghia, but i have my doubts because my car has the anti roll tramp bar at the back going onto the back axle, and as far as i know no ghia had anything like this, i have got onto ford Ireland, classic ford, retro ford and they couldnt help me, so iam hoping for someones help in trying to solve this quiry i have, is my car an RS Mexico.

Can anyone out there inlighten me and put this quiry to rest. Its just an interesting quiry.

    Regards

    John"

Some Ghia's did carry the \chassis starting GCAT. Have you tried checking the registration to see what it comes up as??? Also, do you have any pics of the shell you could post so we can have a look?

There are tell tale bits on the shell that can be checked, wheres the bracket that holds the spare wheel strap, the bracket also that hold the speedo cable under the car the strengthening etc on the inner wings and indeed what are the letters for the engine on the chassis plate.
