I nipped across to france in 2001 for a quick 'beer run' - once loaded up we got on the boat, next thing we knew they had closed dover due to bad weather and we had to wait on the boat. 23 hours later they 'attempted' a sailing - that was interesting

Last time I was there, driving up from Cannes into the Alpes Maritimes in a venetian red RS2, coming the other way was...a venetian red RS2.

A std RS2 could also negotiate the rock chicane placed to block the road on the closed Col d'Allos - and a German's Golf GTi couldn't (so much for fwd and limited steering lock).
(the Col d'Allos is where Pat Moss in the works Austin Healey clinched the Liege-Rome-Liege Rally, when it was the toughest rally of all time)

Walk the Monaco GP course if you get to Monte Carlo. Will take you a few hours and if you stop off at Casino Square for a few drinks and watch the Super Cars drive by it is worth it

            There's a few steep hills
            Cheers

Stay off the motorways and stick to the national roads where possible .
Lovely scenery/villages in places and quiet roads and not much longer .

                Bon route

Glyn, Dazzle and Myself did the south of France a couple of years ago on our bikes, we didn't want to do the return leg on the road, so we came home via Santander/Plymouth.

Worth considering, as it was an overnight crossing, we had a cabin, and were fresh and ready to ride home when we landed.

3000 + miles in 10 days was knackering mind you
                  Cheers Rob.

ah, doing what someone else on here is doing/just done via disney etc

he was also trying to go to some bunkers on the maginot line , and visit the old circuits at Reims and Rouen , but this was dependant on the wife not being too bored
im backdone all the above disney land should be called queue land!!! stayed at at a camp site near melun, just south of paris, about half hour drive to disney.the toll roads do actually work if you need to get somewhere quicker, the cost of the toll is not a lot and you use less fuel,on the way down we averaged 52mpg.reims is strange, the buildings are really small.maginot line bunker we went to was called the hackenburg bunker its kin huge, too big, even i fell asleep on the train journey from each area!!!the ww1 stuff at verdun is also good, got that in too gra good camp site there called les breuils, got good pool and slides.the one near melun was called belle etoile www.campinglabelleetoile.com.one thing i did notice was that when the french drivers overtake they all pull back in again they use the inside lane, unlike over here!!makes the motor way work so much better.

i went a few times when i was a kid with the family....

the weather is virtuall crap north of france, so the further down you go the better...went to the alps & perenees....savage drive & amazing views...was in lourdes as well....not a plcae to bring kids....
good tip already from graham with the tolls....
would be best to try & plan your route & ring ahead with the hotels or campsites as they can be fully booked...
was in baritz and the sand dounes were amazing...the hike up them to the beach on the other side was no fun...what side are you heading down or were is the final destination?
