Would you buy a MKII RS2000 with a sunroof?

I said no to sunroofs, reasons why:

had them in previous mk2`s and always leaked.
weakens the shell.
no good for track use.
dont look good.
devalues the car.

this is only my opinion, each to there own i say!

Same as ders really,had one before,it leaked.
Also the whole roof line looks so much more better the same colour with no breaks in it.
Plus i'm planning on going down the concours route with my mex,so this is going to be a no no with me.
Why didn't ford fit em with tilt and slide ones?They were about at the time,anyone shed some light on this? Chimpy?

i have a glass pop top, but the colour of the car was fab, and the rest of the car was too good to miss out on, just because of a sunroof...... i have a folding sunroof, to have re upholstered and put in at some time, i prefer these to the glass ones, but i guess i would rather not have any.......i think

I said YES to buying an RS2000 with a Sunroof in.

I prefer them without a (glass) sunroof, but my Mex had a glass roof, so did my Harrier, and my white RS2000 has a Britax weathershield vinyl sliding roof and a black vinyl (these are dealer fitted not factory, as the chassis tags say diamond white and not a vinyl roof), and my Nordic RS2 has a black vinyl. The red GP4 shell fortunately never had a sunroof.

If I was doing a concours re-build on an otherwise standard car, the glass roof would have to go. But as a weekend car / daily driver, then a glass roof wouldn't put me off.

The glass roof in my Harrier leaked like a sieve when I bought the car in 1991, so I bought a new glass sunroof from FMC for it (accessory part)enlarged the hole very slightly and - hey presto - a genuine Ford sunroof in my car.

Good S/H Roof skins are out there, so if you really HATE glass roofs, get the top re-skinned :thumbup:

No other reason than preference, I'm not into rallying or concours so from a practical sense the glass roof does not make any difference - I just don't like them.

I have voted yes.
I personally dislike the 'period glass' sunroofs but have always liked the Britax/Webasto fold back type. Whilst I wouldn't contemplate fitting a sunroof to the blue car - as discussed with Ders - I am seriously thinking of having a Webasto fitted to the Zetec project.
After all it didn't prove a problem to Paul Spence's car over the years !

At the end of the day its what you like and not what someone else likes plus if everyone who likes a untouched concourse car well they would not be able to change the suspension, braking or tune up the engine with bigvalve heads and twin 45's :bom: as thats not how they left the factory either

can you change the roof skin, without having to replace the whole structure at A,B and C posts? does it look odd afterwards, or can it be done perfectly? is this with a used roof skin, or a new item from expressed steel? mr hoarder might like to answer this for me, as he seems to mention something above, from what sounds like experience in this area..

i think that most people would if they had the choice buy a car without a glass sunroof, but if as been said the cars is good in all the right places then why not.
As neil has said most peoiple like the webasto roofs as they are a period thing and do look nice.
Lee......you can get a new roof fitted, i think darren at escort tec who post oh here charges about £500, and you wouldnt know the difference once it has been done.

The roof skin is spot welded in the gutters and front and rear window apertures and joins at the top of the A pillar and C pillar. You don't need to touch the B pillars, as the gutters are above them.

All the spot welds get drilled out and the joins between the roof and A/C pillars needs to have the lead loading removed by heating it up (don't use a grinder, as lead dust is poisonous).

The new roof skin is removed from the doner car in the same way and then you plug weld through the spot weld holes and onto the gutters and window apertures, grind the welds flat, lead load the A/C pillar joins, prime and paint.
