Would you buy a MKII RS2000 with a sunroof?

After just reading a post about buying a mk2 rs2000 it got me thinking about buying a mk2 with a sunroof , when i was on the lookout for a rs2000 i wanted one without ideally but wasnt a massive concern , my biggest concern was getting the most solid car my money could buy ,and then the car i currently own came up for sale complete with sunroof , at first it put me off slightly after all the people saying "dont buy one with a sunroof" but i purchased the car (sunroof and all) and to be honest the sunroof doesnt bother me at all , only thing that does bother me is the selling when/if i come to sell the car , is this the only reason sunroofed mk2's are "frowned" upon ..the resale?
So what i want to know is what are the reasons you would not buy a MKII RS2000 with a sunroof?

Well mine has a sunroof and i love it :bom: i think to many people worry about something that does not matter unless you are actually going to rally your car :icon12: i mean if a car is really good and someone does not buy it because someone says its got a sunroof more fool them IMO if it was good enough in the 80's then its good enough for me.

If you have a mint car for the road it doesn't matter.The days of turning Mint cars (RS2000) into rally cars has gone as they are obviously worth alot more in standrad unmollested trim.

I think this quote is why alot of the people are put off with cars with sunroofs , but again if your not showing in concours why should a "sunny" bother you?

And at the end of the day you are driving around in a 25 year old car that you should be proud of and i would not let silly little things like sunroofs and speaker holes put you off enjoying a good car.

I dont mind it in mine

but to be honest its nothing to do with, if there is one I dont buy cars of any age with a sunroof, what I have had is my BMW's with the steel sliders, I just dont like light coming in from above simple as that

Fair comment mate but all i'm saying is you should not let things like sunroofs and speaker holes put you off buying a good car just because a few people dont like it.

For what reasons though dermot? Resale? strength of shell? leaks? originality?

Just trying to find out why sunroofs are "frowned" upon in the mk2 world.

And im glad to see there are some people willing to buy a rs2k with a sunroof

A mate of mine bought a mk1 mexico earlier in the year with a sunroof, he s now decided to have the roofskin replaced, the sunroof in question was an aftermarket one, which was too big for the car, it had even distorted the roof, you may have seen the car at a few shows earlier in the year, its white and had a green mexico stripe.
The only thing that puts me off about sunroofs in older cars is that they always seem to leak

When I bought my first used RS2000 in 1980 I couldn't wait to get one of those new-fangled glass sunroofs fitted! It was the thing to do at that time. I'd personally prefer an RS2000 without one now, but I don't see what's wrong with it. After all, some classic car freaks go out of their way to get a period radio and nodding dog, and a glass sunroof was a period accessory at that time.

Personally.....
if it sticks out a bit, then maybe replace it with one of the nice flush fitting ones you can get nowadays.

I would maybe think about 'camouflaging' it a bit by fitting a vinyl roof, but then I'm a BVR fan!

(PS: I'm going to be going through the same dilemma in a few months with speaker holes!)

I've got a sunroof, at the time I didn't give a toss.. the car was as solid in the right places and was cheap as chips. During this summer I got a bit caught up with the "must have a mint RS" thing and decided that this winter I would have the roof re-skinned. Then I had a couple of weekends blatting around North Yorkshire's finest roads listening to the sound of twin 45's and have made the decision that a set of 4pots and a lsd would produce a much bigger grin.

Given the choice again i'd buy any Escort if it was any good or worth saving regardless of sunroof.

sunroofs

I've had my RS2 for nearly 20 years, no problems with the sunroof yet. Only in heavy rain does it come in thru the hinges. I have won the RSOC Concourse twice for 'Best Mk2 RS2000' even with the sunroof in.
If I found an absolute mint RS, I would think twice if it had a sunroof, but these wonderful cars are over 20 years old now and you have to expect a few mods to them. So to your poll, no it doesn't bother me that I have a sunroof in my RS2.
