I'm not a concours fan myself - it is of course good to see these cars in tip top condition and hats off to the owners who have done the work but as someone else said, if I had restored my car to that level I'd be too scared to drive it.

If I had the cash I would be buying the sort of bits you are Paul but I would stop short of painting the underside of the car - instead I would probably just stone chip it in black (which is what I will be doing to mine this winter) and powder coat all the suspension components giving me a very very clean car that can be used without fear of too much road damage.

Let's face it, all other areas of the car (i.e the outside, interior and engine bay) can be kept spotless without too much effort so with oly a small compromise you end up with a car that is 98% as good as a concours vehicle but that you can also drive.

      Hi Paul,
I have spent fortunes on mine getting it concours condition, not to enter it into concours competition, but purely for my own pleasure. I have modified it also, to suit me! Cannot be arsed with all the politics that goes with concours. Do what you want to do, the value will increase anyway with all your new parts. The main thing is enjoy it!

          Paul

If your happy with that then go for it, thats basically what i am gong to do with the mk2 and try to keep my mk1 going and maybe restore the mk1 when funds allow.
I think we all enjoy looking at concourse cars and admire the hard work that has gone in to them but i think more then ever now poeple are turning towards a really nice clean car that can be used and enjoyed without the hassle and wory of entering concourse.
There was an article in the rsoc mag a few years back about a guy who had a concurse mk2 rs2(sorry cant remember your name if your reading this) and in the end he sold it because he couldnt stand to lose and the stress that went with it , i think that story tells it all really.
So what you have to do now is get your shell restored and fit all those lovely bits and post plentys of pics so we all see the progress.

          good luck m8
