Eithere Toyo R888's or Yoki A048's both in 185/60/13, I've used the Yoki A048 for the last 4 years or so for track and road, superb, with medium compound you'll get 2-3000 miles + from a set, soft compounds are good for sprints but will overheat on the track.

I've got 205-60-13 Yoko's A048 medium compound they were superb at the trackday at Combe a few weeks ago,so much so the marshalls stopped me when I came off track as they thought I had slicks on!(you are not allowed slicks at track days)
I then went to Brooke Meadow and AVO day about a 400 mile weekend trip no probs on the road at all.
Got four for £320 delivered from Demon Tweeks.

Hello all, many years ago i had Yokohama A008`s on my MK2 Mexico, absolute brilliant tyres in the dry, abit iffy in the wet.I finished work one night at midnight as i was on shifts and got pulled by the plod in my mex on my way home, the young copper said i had illegal tyres on my motor as they only had tread on 2/3rds of the tyre and round holes on the other 1/3rd.When a traffic copper arrived which was nearly an hour later he looked at the tyres and told the young constable he was being a little over zealous and let me go on my way.Regards Gixer1000.

Avon CR28 Sports 185/60-13 on a 6in rim are to all intents unbeatable on an Escort in the rain. Will run rings around other Escorts on almost any other tyre. The Yoko AO21R was next best but couldn't match it in monsoon conditions.
If pushed hard in the dry, whether on 6in or 7in rims, CR28 Sport will tear up the edge like there's no tomorrow. On dry MN rallies the top Escort people used up 3 pairs on the back (carried in the car of course Mr Judge of Fact...ahem) when one set of TB15s had lasted an entire event.
For dry, Yoko 048R (032R long gone) are still generally used in ASWMC speed championship roadgoing classes. Some consider they are not as good as 032Rs were because the latter came in 3 compounds not 2 and thus the softest was that bit softer. These are lethal in standing water -and don't believe anything to the contrary.
Dont expect any "List1A" tyre (some mentioned above) to offer same grip.
You may find registering for ASWMC and buying Yoko from Bridge Tyres is cheapest.

Most of the fastroad boys use 7's with 185/60 Toyo's. Cheap and easy to get.
