Updated, anyone know why black trim changed in 78 from A1 to A7 is it because the seats changed from scheel to base/custom ?
Still need the blanks filling gents, cheers, Paul

what year is the documentation from?
I would suggest that these were all late or "batch" cars like the runs of Harriers done in 3 runs of 500
This may explain it being a "special" or the documentation you've got there is not accurate for the time at which these cars came off the line

I reckon that the chocolate/tobacco coloured vinyl roofs or any other colour for that matter, were fitted or arranged by the dealer themselves on a car supplied from the factory without the v/roof. I know this was common practice with many car dealers at that time. The dealers where either geared up to fit the vinyl roofs or small outside firms were employed. Often these firms would use an after market type kit which used a cheaper form of finishing trims, as the Ford items (hockey sticks) where expensive to buy even then. I believe that this was also the reason why the vinyl did not continue to run down the front pillars on some cars, as Capri kits were often used. The beauty of all this was that it offered the customer extra choice of colour for the v/roof, as not everyone liked black.
The example of tobacco v/roof shown here was obviously fitted after delivery from the factory, as the hockey stick mouldings on the rear pillar are not original (look early type or after-market items). Often a glass sunroof as shown here, would be offered at the same time as the aftermarket v/roof as part of a package, probably involving a bit of a deal thrown in.
Tim.

Regards, tobacco not being available on the RS, I don't see why this shouldn't be available there wasn't much that was reserved only for the STD models that wasn't available on the RS.
Fords did some odd things at times, they introduced chocolate and biege trim. They scrapped the lovely black RS headlining which was a trade mark of the RS, and made black trim totally unavailable, only to bring it back later, on the lesser model "Harriers". Many owners could not live with this change, and so in the 80's there were cases were some were swapping their brown and biege trim for their favourite s/h black trim.
