Are cars taking longer to sell than this time last year ?

      no,
would say its a fairly specialist / enthusiast driven market for Escorts and they will maintain their values, each day another goes to the scrapper for one reason or another, thus rarity maintains

Personally I think it will depend on the cars condition. Also if it is a restoration with all the bits there then the prices should hold, but if you are buying a restoration that needs lots of parts the price of the car may be affected due to the crazy prices that these parts are bringing on eBay etc.
          Cheers

If prices haven't already started to weaken, I think they will do in the short term. The majority of us have a finite amount of money, either as income with which to repay loans or savings to spend on a (if we are being truthful) fairly expensive toy. At the moment people's unavoidable outgoings are steadily rising (food, fuel, household bills mortgage etc) so they/we have less 'disposable' cash to spend on hobbies. If savings were going to be used, people are more reluctant to spend their safety net in case they need it to keep a roof over their head/ deal with an unforeseen emergency. Therefore I think prices will drop in the short term, to an arguably more realistic level.
However, those of us who already own the car we want wont be affected because we have these cars because we enjoy them for what they are, not as an investment. The only people who stand to lose are those who may have bought a car with the intention of selling in the near future with the sole aim of making a profit.
                  In longer term values will increase steadily due to a couple of reasons;
Our type and age of cars are the last which wil be able to be restored and maintained at home with basic tools as opposed to serious technology. Also history shows that cars which were desired by males in their teens and early twenties are the ones which rise in value as those same males reach a stage in life where they have enough money to be able to afford what they couldnt afford in their youth, To give you an example, think about an E type Jaguar, the dogs in the sixties, worth sod all in the eary to mid seventies but by the eaarly eighties they were worth more than a semi detached house, then there was "black Monday" on the financial markets and values fell through the floor and now they are approaching the levels of the eighties again.
There, I've given one view, lets have a bit of debate now.

Its just my view. I'm not saying that those who have posted earlier in the thread will be proved wrong, just that my view is different to theirs. Only time will tell. Hopefully some more peeps will come along and give their own thoughts

                        prices

I think their have been a few reasons, all in one go which have made the prices rise of escorts.

Classic Ford Mag growth in sales
                        Internet Forums
                        E bay
                        and
The growth in the ecomony over the last 6 years

The first 3 seem here to stay, our pockets are getting hit now though by rising costs.

I feel prices are already falling in some areas of the escorts.

Take shells, LHD ones sometime ago they were selling for a lot of money, now they have dropped a fair bit, this could be down to over supply in the market place, but I feel their is not that many for sale now as before, but when they come up they dont sell like they use to on ebay.
RS2000 on the bay , I dont know just dont seem to ave the bids on them they use to.

                        Thats just my gut feeling

I feel people are thinking a bit more now before they purchase !

anybody else want to have a say.

I said as much a few months back, but it hasn't really kicked in yet as there are enough people with enough spare cash to pay silly sums for cars and especially annoying, parts.

Over time these cars are a good investment, not just as good fun but when times are better prices will return to the highs and is probably as good an investment as any shares.

Prices are silly, 20K for a MkII Escort is just getting beyond the pale, it's taking the fun out of the cars

I think good cars will continue to rise in price due to the fact there are so many people wanting them and not enough around.
They might be an expensive toy..but its money well spent
