What a bunch of tossers , took the mrs's focus down there with suspected core plug / possible porous head problem . bin going on for months but had enough now . **** on the counter didnt have a clue , they have diagnosed core plug issue AGAIN have repaired them but their attitude and service is SHITE.
car is nearly 3 years old now and it transpires ford may have fitted a 1800 engine NOT a 1600 as stated on the log book !!! no wonder we keep struggling for new bastad core plugs !!!!!!!
the matter is now with ford uk as we are both well and truly pizzed off with the whole situation.

Am in the trade and my experience with ford dealers of today is poor. They seem to be employing ****wits who don't have a clue and don't care less. i'm sure there are some good dealers out there but most near to us are pretty poor

As i said in my first post, i'm sure there are some good dealers out there, just going on my experience. Our local dealer has several parts people but i will only deal with one particular person as the rest don't want to know owt about the older models. If he's off then i wait til he comes back. He goes out of his way to find out info for me. I am not trying to offend people on here who work for ford, i'm sure you guys do a good job but most people i speak to in the trade don't think much to ford dealers in general.

            not just ford

i had a golf gti 1.8 turbo ! it was making a funny little whistle noise when in and out of gears ! started to bug me so i took it to Smith Knight FAy in bolton ! they said it was the gearbox and it needed to be changed ! so i contacted the private insurance plan i had and they put it in a garage ! cost over a grand and when i got it back the noise was still there so i went back to Smith Knight Fay and a different lad jumped in!! he reved it up and said ah yes its the little part on top of the turbo ? they often go so i says how much are they ? £25 and a two minuet job ! i went in and sat with the manager ! and walked out with a cheque for £800 compensation ! oh and a free service

                sorry to hear that mate

but i'm afraid in general most big companys in the uk are same (half the employees are dimwits) not saying all as there are good ones hat you just need to deal with i find it all the time with builders / plumbing merchants etc.
must admit my local vw dealer (martins) have been spot on when ever gone in with the golf

hope you get it sorted mate

My Mum has a Golf Gti 1.8 Turbo.

She kept hearing the same noise as you had, I drove it, and diagnosed the turbo myself, VW changed the part under warranty.

She thought it was clutch and or gearbox related as the noise only happened when dipping the clutch for a gear change.

It was the turbo dumping boost
                    Cheers Rob.
