I'd been having problems with the Mex for a bit, with a missfire and thought all was sorted - that was until driving in heavy traffic through Harrogate on Friday night on the way to RS_Fiesta's over in Burnley the coil cooked up and thanks to several people off here who helped out, numerous offers of a replacement coil were avaliable at Heaves on Sat morning. Sat morning & replacement coil fitted - I thought all was now well!!!!
Alas it wasn't, same driving style as last year (like a Kangaroo on speed) although even worse this year it played up right from the start ramp at heaves, we limped upto the BP petrol station 1.7 miles away at about 30mph and after all the (gratefully recieved!) help from everyone - you know who you are!! I thought the problem might have been cured, with the loan of a new dizzy cap (cheers nelly!) and Rodders having a tinker about with the ignition.
Well it didn't get any better and aftter leaving my petrol filler cap at services near the M6 (could things get any worse!!) Matt suggested stopping off at Nobles garage, and after Marcus Noble of rallying fame tried another new coil and played about with ignition - rotor arm etc. etc. he told me it was carbs playing up. Screwed the fuel mixture round couple of notches and said try that - well away we went, I was like a dog with two dicks and headed upto heartside cafe in record time! Never managed to catch up with rest of notts crew, who my mate (RS_Fiesta's twin-bro) Paul was with navigating for Greg Lee, but had great time once the car was running sweet again.
Next year the Mex WILL NOT BREAKDOWN!!!!!!!
Cheers for the help again everyone
