Yer the price of petrol bloody high over here to but it's pushed the price of food and just about everything else up as well but i get around town on me 50cc scooter cheap as chips! if not a little cold this time of year.
Dunno about NZ but where I am in Oz (Queensland) I am currently paying about $1.48 per litre for Diesel which is about 70p at current exchange rates.
Petrol fluctuates here with some kind of bizarre weekly discount cycle, so it is normally about $1.29 (91 octane unleaded) on a Tuesday afternoon, (lowest price) up to about $1.45 on a Wednesday afternoon (highest price day) we also have 95 and 98 octane which are a bit more expensive.
It has gone up a lot here, and as Kiwi said is pushing food prices up too (and everything else) but compared to the prices you are all putting up with in the UK it doesn't seem quite so bad.
But in general wages are lower here in Oz than the UK, so it is having a fairly big impact on lots of people.
It's unfair and a disgrace that the government take so much tax but i wont get into that!! I drive hgv's and in 2000 we proved we could bring the country to a standstill in 4 days by blocking the fuel depots. Unfotunately doing this upsets and disrupts everyone but i think this is the only way they'll listen.
Nah, I drive a truck too, costs around £2200 a week just to keep it in fuel...
as for blockades like last time, no, we just ALL STAY HOME FOR A WEEK, everyones still knackered, but we dont get the blame, bye bye mr Brown
A litre of diesel is $1.57 91 petrol is $1.89 a litre and 95 $1.95 and if you go out of town you'll pay 2 bucks a litre at some places
and we are heading into winter down here. going to be a hard winter me thinks
The problem is that we are a nation of moaner's we should take a leaf out of the french's book and tourch some foreign lorrys at the ports and block off the motorway network,
Red diesel presently is at 59p/Litre. That is purely because there is no Government tax on it.
Reduce the tax or campaign for a fixed amount tax rather than a %. This would safeguard against a rise in the basic cost.
It is the only way forward for motorists.
As for us poor farmers were stuck at the basic cost and can't see how to get any reduction. Maybe some more subsidies would be in order. In our peak season we use 1000 litres a day!
I thought the gov were stopping red diesel next year? all diesel will be rated at road duty?
Use cooking oil ! it's leagal up to 2500 litre a year before you need to pay fuel duty and it's only 80 odd pence per litre
Somone NEEDS to build a TD RS can you imagine all the irate owners when you pull into the feild
In the middle of a TD Mk3 cortina at the mo, tax,LEZ and congestion exempt (how i hate living in London)
We were facing some of the greatest inflationary pressures for many years.
A brief canvas of my workforce has confirmed they have all noticed fuel and food going up and mortgages payments have either gone up or will be doing so soon, so I am not shocked to find them expecting some kind of pay rise this year.
Carriage rates have already gone up and several of the transport companies we use have started using fuel surcharges which they vary without notice each month.
Steel keeps going up and is shattering all records.
Every energy cost has gone up.
All of our subcontractors have put up prices, most quoting the price of oil and energy costs as the reason along with rises in commodity prices.
Rates have only gone up 4%.
Water has remained constant (mainly due to them having lied to get a massive rise 2 years ago).
The Pound is weak against the Euro so all imports from Europe have gone up in Sterling terms.
The Pound has now come back a bit from the Dollar so there is nothing more to be had there.
The minimum wage went up last October and is going up again this October.
Interest rates are up so borrowing is more expensive.
Land fill tax and fuel have put the price of emptying the bin up.
Sandwiches from the shop up the road have gone up by 10p.
