  • The Classic car/parts market?

In my opinion the RS market is now getting taken over by people with wherewithall and, its just putting us mortals out of the scene, its the true enthusiast that wants to get their cars back from the brink to enjoy and others to admire.

its not so much enjoyment of like minded people its the speculation market that ruins everything it touches, I like others have a finite budget, I want the best i can for my budget which is tight on what some people have paid for their resto's. I have been a collector of very limited toy cars, old signed fanatsy comics, even zippo lighters, all of these have now gone to the wall, I just keep what I have for my enjoyment.

    any opinions?

    Well said that man.

Maybe we should start an RS Co-operative or something.

Maybe it's time for the club to step in and work to obtain a supply of reasonably prices spares that all can afford (not just the minted).

The people spending big bucks on mk2`s are driving the price of our own cars up, which isn`t a bad thing in the long run. Not so good if you dont have one though!
As for Vinny`s idea - i agree swapping is a better way of dealing, everyone`s a winner that way. I have both helped and been helped in getting cheap spares by people regular to this site for a number of years now. These are not only fellow RS enthusiasts but also have become good friends.
          This makes the club worthwhile.

Sounds a great idea. Make the parts only available to club members or a club member can get an attractive discount on these parts.

I agree 100% mate!! I have recently consolidated my interests, pretty much down to just the MKII because she was getting just too expensive in restoration terms and I still haven't finished. I had about £2k worth of sci-fi and fantasy collectables but I ended up flogging the lot on Ebay and ploughing it back into that yellow hole I have in the garage. As the scene is now getting EXTREMELY popular, parts, resto costs etc are going berserk. But it is true that a MKII is certainly a sound LONG-term investment (if you view it that way of course??) I shall get around to renewing my membership me thinks; now where's that renewal form.....

i know the feeling about consolidation - i sold both my lambrettas to fund the mk1 and no longer spend time buying old vinyl etc.

thing is now i have the mk2 there is nothing else to sell, i kept trawling over the idea of selling the mk1 again but sure i will regret it
