I have replied on the RSOC BB.

I think that most people on here also look at the RSOC Old School and perhaps Turbosport Old School too.

The support is coming through different channels, but from the right people wouldn't you say ?

Remember the post asking "What is a Mexico" on the RSOC BB ?

You won't get support from people who don't know about the cars you are interested in.

You wouldn't expect the Vauxhall "Droop Snoot Group" (for example - it could have been the Mini Cooper register or any other Classic car club for that matter) to say Well Done Kel - what a lovely RS2000 - because they aren't neccessarily interested in a Mk2 RS2000 - like every one on here is.
      Cheers Rob.

Brian knows - as he phoned me

It's all about how few people use the RSOC Old School section, and what the possible reasons may be.

My theory is that it's mainly the same people using the RSOC, here, and Turbosport old School anyway, so it's not a lack of interest in old school Escorts, just where everyone prefers to post.

Busy bulletin boards will always get busier, slow ones slower - that's how it goes.
            Cheers Rob.

                  here we go..

                  -----------------------------------

I dont know why but its happened/ing

I'm getting more support for me & the rs2000 from other sources like turbosport & the mk2
RS club (which I am a member now). Which brings me to a point, why did I feel the need to Join another club, I joined the AVO club,
while I was look for a Mk1 for Julie.. Why ?.. beyond my little mind .

Since the purchase of the rs2000 my browsing habits have changed a great deal.

                  I now visit in order:-

                  1. Mk2 RS Club
                  2. turbosport
                  3. RSOC (only to see if there is any support i can give and to pick up PM's

It not just a website thing.

Although I know the club is not what just about Turbos and cosworths etc.... but I can see why
people I speak to in the 68-81 rs scene think that the RSOC is for the turbo cars. I know this is not
it not true but does feel like it.

For example, I meet up with Mk2 RS club members before visiting the RSOC Kent meeting.

Plan to meet up with Mk2 RS members at the Dono parts event.

Not having a pop or a go, I think the club is one of the best but..... other contacts seem to have
more of a club feel to them.

I had great support from John Hughes when buying our car; had a good few mails between myself and Graham John (always a pleasure).

I'm not looking for answers, I just want to get out there and enjoy the car with like minded people (but they seem to be else where)

What can be done ????? I dont know lost of any ideas

kel, good points made there, but i was wondering what were your thoughts on the avo club m8 - please feel free to pm me if you dont want to discuss on here.

maybe your post on the rsoc will make the club sit up and listen, i know giz is a mk2 man but maybe the other people of importance or the local groups are run but a new generation of rs owner who has no interest in "our old cars" as sad as it may sound.

good luck with hopefully getting some positive feed back from the club, i did look for the post to add my surport but couldnt find it ?

kel - i agree with u there mate and i also visit the sites in the same order. The rsoc board isn't what it was that's for sure, i think because it was out of action for such a long time not so long ago that people went elsewhere and have not felt the need to return.

Good post, I just joined up here aswell because you get such good and quick help when you need it

My personal opinion is that the online RSOC suffers cause it is so big and people have such variety of cars and how they use them, because it is so big people want to stick with what they know. This has meant the startup of more specialised groups.

The track / modified vs concours is a prime example the concours people have stuck with the RSOC site while the track/modified crowd are on passionford unfortunately this gives the impression that the RSOC is only for concours types because thats what the majority using it now are, when its not infact the case. Same problem on passionford I dont mentioning I have a concours car because the majority there arent into it and you dont get good responses so you feel out of place.

A lot of other clubs dont have this problem because they dont actually have a huge range of different model / periods, scooby, evo etc spring to mind, vauxhall on the other hand does have similar issues with various specialised clubs mig, droop snoot etc.

                          Kel,

Not sure what the answer is here mate. Being one of those you met up with before the Kent meet I would make the observation (on behalf of me, Trickster and Mr. Hoarder - the other 'suspects' you mentioned) that we pretty much stuck to our own little group during the meeting. Maybe that's just me (us?) being anti social but to be honest, other than our little band of merry men, I didn't feel that welcome. Nobody bothered to speak to any of us and maybe you might say that we are as much to blame for not speaking to any of the other owners however, last month I made a concerted effort to talk to cossie/RST owners and I ended up feeling that there was no interest in accepting and 'oldie' into the group. For instance, i spent a good hour asking a few people about their cars, what the exact variant was, what mods etc. how fast so on and so on. Not ONE of them even looked at my MKII, let alone asked any questions.

Maybe we just have to accept it all for what it is - if you are intersted in Old Skool (MKII in particular) then this - and the people you meet on here - is the place to be. The RSOC has become, without a shadow of a doubt, a domain for the post '81 car owners. I think these cars attract a different genre of people - possibly those who want to get every ounce of tuned power out of a car (let's face it, it aint no good if it's got less than 200bhp) and have as much chrome under the bonnet (another pre-requisite I have noticed for newer cars).

Maybe we should just stop worrying about it all and just let the evolution of the different groups of people take over 'til the natural outcome of events makes itself apparent.

Who the f**k knows - I'm probably just talking sh1t anyway.

RE Avo, I do enjoy the read of Havoc. but to be honest I joined when Julie & I were hunting for a Mk1 rs2000 (she thinks they have cute looks, bless), I'm a mk2 guy and I won the hunt ... . From what I see of the AVO club via the mag, I think they seem to have it right mix.

As for the Mk2 Rs club, long may it Grow & Grow and get stronger & stronger.

Out of interest, how long has the club been running ?

re: Kent, I use to be on the committee unit a time last year where the usall bollitics got in the way & I pulled all my support when the chairmanship changed. I supported the kent group for 5 years. Only a few people said Hi, very tight group.

I dont really want to discuss RSOC issues here. But least you guys understand.
