  • Getting a bit desparate now ........

Still trying to achieve the perfect Recaro interior trim and as I don't seem to be able to lay my hands on any new chocolate brown beta fabric I'm now resorting to desperate measures :

I've got a big bin bag full of chocolate brown trim panels so this afternoon I sat for an hour or so and picked all of the stitching out of a centre base seat panel that had some stains on it (and as such was a test piece). Next, I stripped the fabric backing off the beta fabric and scraped off all of the degraded foam. Then it was into a sink full of warm water with Stain Devil to try and get rid of the mildew marks and finally into a 50 degree wash in the washing machine.

The aim now is to buy some new backing foam and use a fabric spray mount to attach it to the beta. Then I'll have to practice with the sewing machine and see if I can put the whole lot back together again. Ambitious or what.

It would be far simpler if some kind soul out there would sell me some of the hoarded chocolate beta that I am sure is still around.

    Efforts so far :

If anyone has atempted anything like this before and has any advice, I'm all ears.

Good effort Arron, wish i had the patience!!
Why why why why why why doesn't someone make this fabric anymore?!
It's so annoying that members have to do this sort of thing just to make their car look better after 25 odd years of service.
This goes back to my previous rant on another post about bits avaliable to us.
Surely someone with the knowledge and money can see that this would be a goldmine to remanufacture?! This is 2004 right? We can send blokes to the moon, but we cant seem to be able to make this certain type of cloth anymore?! Jeezzz! Sometimes i wonder about this restoring lark.
I myself have a lovely retrimmed set in my car(not beta cloth) but if i want to go to concours it would seem i'll have to go to a leather retrim (quoted £1000) and enter her in the modified section.
Sorry folks,i'll get off me soapbox now and take some valium.

I've been in touch with Aldridge Trimming in Wolverhampton for the last 8 months or so......I call them every month and each time they say they are 'about to order some in' but it never seems to get done.

Maybe if enough people called them they would get their ar5es into gear. It is possible to do it, it just requires a minimum order of something like 200m.

Don't worry Brian - I'll remember to exclude the ironing board !!! :albino:

You never know, if this little 'experiment' works, maybe I could sell it as a service to others.

I have also been in touch with Aldridge Trimming in Wolverhampton. My name is on their list. I will ring them again tomorrow.
There must be more than arron and myself looking for this material?

Without a doubt there are more than just us two - virtually everyone you talk to with a brown interior would jump at the chance to get some fabric.

Come on, everyone who want this material call Aldridge tomorrow on :

Rung aldridge trimming today to put my name down for a retrim.
The woman on the desk said that the boss was on holiday and would be back on Monday.
I asked her if he had gone to Barbados, but quick as a flash she said that he was on a beta cloth finding holiday.Fair play to her!
If we keep this momentum going we may get em to actually do summat.
I'll just see if i can locate a pair of thumbscrews on e bay......
