a couple of years ago there was a bloke who was restoring a white RS2000 and needed a few bits, was always on ebay and if you saw his name on an item it was useless trying to out bid as he payed top money for the bits, so whats the difference now just new people doing the same, the bits a bit rarer and inflation has gone up

so the situation has always been here and will always be the same perhaps the prices may go up maybe they will go down who knows who cares i just love the cars .
maybe i will break down my twin cam for spares
I don't think I'd ever break a good runner, unless it was knackered (rotted out and a colour nobody wanted) I'd stick it in a shed somewhere but there you pays your money etc etc.

i had this conversation a while back with bigjohnnie off this site ! why dont the car makers realise that the cars of today are rubbish !! yes they are safe etc etc but dont have any character ! they all look the same . Can you imagine the demand if ford were to relaunch all the range again but with better brakes and safety features etc ! they would be hot cakes . i would sell the wife to get me hands on one all the programes on sky like overhaulin and wrecks to riches ? everyone is paying out big dough for restored classic cars !

the thing about that is it will end up being a repro like the new mini....and thats SH*T
and if they do remake them there will be loads then and it wont be good for the proper old cars

can't happen, have you seen the cars out there today, they couldn't be made to fit the current legislation and even if they could it wouldn't feel like a MkII and would loose it's kudos.

I drove my RS back from Holland and for a long trip these cars aren't a patch on the new ones, new cars might a bit on the dull side but even a ordinary STD 16 focus, driven properly would probably be faster than a STD RSII.

It might be nice if Ford decided to reproduce some of the hard to get bits and even shells (obviously with giveaway features built in) but FMC will never resurrect an old model like the Mk1 or II.

I remember when I was dead set on building a concourse mk2 RS - I wanted every part to be new or as new, all painted and shiny etc; basically concours. At the same time I also had a very clean and tidy mk2 which was used as a weekend screamer.

After collecting a sizeable amount of NOS parts for the RS I suddenly realised that I had much more fun in the road going screamer which was clean, than the concours RS which I'd never be happy with, always be cleaning and invariably lose a lot of money over.

Now the RS is gone and I still have the clean mk2. After reading this thread I'm glad I managed to shake the concours bug and thus avoid being charged ridiculous prices for 'must have' parts.

                      Just my two cents....
