  • fund raiser ideas!

hi guys, not a subject we like to talk about but my best mate has lost his 13 year old daughter with cancer,he now does one hell of alot of fund raising for leukemia busters,i think it would be great if we, as a club was to get together and come up with some ideas as to raise some cash for this well worthy cause, and have a great old skool day at the same time,we have so many members here that I'm sure we can come up with an idea,i would like to do something anuly which we can have in the memory of,this could be the start of something great, all i need is for you guys to give some ideas for me to look at,i thort about a track day if we could get a circit at a reduced price,or just a meet or something completely different, but i do want to involve the cars!
This is every parents nightmare and i want to show we care!
my mate Phil is coming over next Wednesday to put some photos on here with me,please give me something positive to show him!
    thanks guys!!! EDDIE....

anyone got any ideas for a circuit fairly central and cheap to rent for a day?? wouldn't have to limit it to escorts or anything old as long as groups were on track were fairly matched

what about doing something similar to the beaujolais run? ie, everyone meets at a well known place (eg, lands end, brighton pier, Tower Bridge, Edinburgh Castle) and then you have to get to another well known place by the shortest route carrying something which your starting point is famous for and collecting clues or answers along the way.
May possibly appeal to a wider selection of people than a track day would.
You could start from Hereford carrying cider, Melton Mowbray with pork pies, Cheddar with cheese, Blackpool with rock etc

how about a mass meet, years ago i gather that drayton manor park used to hold the avo day or some sort of show, its in a central place has camping facility's and an amusement park how about a large gathering,i know its close to me,as in i can hear them scream when there on the roller coaster, there are b&b if people dont want to leave there cars on the car park at the b&b they can use my drive & my parents & i will ask the neighours for those that travel along way may be the treasure hunt as already been put forward,or do a trackday at donnington only 30mins up the road & return back to drayton manor for the evening, what do you think just a few ideas maybe get the manor to chip in afew quid cheap advertising & some money for the cause

the proposal to do something is very generous and welcome , however if we are going to do something some thought needs to be applied beforehand.

a track event is pretty much a no no as it would mean spending probably more than we would raise, even if we did not hire a circuit (ALL venues cost thousands - even midweek) and done it in conjunction with others it would be more money spent than raised (travelling, fuel costs, possibly hotels etc etc)

Good idea would be to do a "run", something like a tour of somewhere / convoy to somewhere where we could raise some cash en route and also get some advanced publicity and settle there for an afternoon.

How about a northern, southern, eastern, western group of convoys, setting off at somewhere at 9.00 pm with a view to arriving at a pre arranged / determined location in the midland's for @ 1.00 pm which would be nuetral. posibilities could include Gaydon, Drayton Manor, cadbury world, or similar and we could have an afternoon of activities which would be not expensive to participate and we could raise money via some activity.
could be a "negative" Alternative bufty competition (Dirty cars would win) however Hally may clean up with that with not much competition, we could have a RS boot sale amongst ourselves and all sales to go to the charity (We ALL have something we could bring)Invite a magazine to contribute a modest sum in return for an exclusive on the event, or Tug of War between the four regional convoys, maybe a 5 a side football match (in womens clothing!!!) i would be happy to get involved / co ordinate, however if it was a case of a track day or something, whilst fun, would cost a lot of money when the purpose is to raise money.

Anyone in the midlands got accesss to a large ish piece of land (Autotest / 5 a side, bufty etc ) F.O.C.

a bank holidat weekend would be ideal, however lot's of peeps would be on holidays, alternatively a long summer weekend day (sat or Sun)

nice idea gra,i like the idea of all meeting somwhere, like you say,we could all head off in convoy from our countys and meet at somewhere nice for a tug of war(i like that one),also fancy dress always gets a good sponcer!!
i think this could be the one to go with!!
i will need tel no's for suitable venue's or like you say, see if anyone on here has a nice central pice of land to acc us over night,do you think we can get an idea of numbers that would be willing to attend?then i can speek to the usual magazines to see if they could do somthing with us!.
this has got me all excited now!!
                          nice one
                          ,many thanks Edd.
