  • Was Asked Today....

I know it is possible with Mobile Phones, but could not answer the above question.

Most if not all mobile phones can be used as a modem

Costs a few quid per meg download though

So answer to original question is - Yes but you will need either a WiFi Hotspot or a mobile with loads of credit or a dedicated broadband modem chip as supplied from 3 etc !

On my Nokia N95 on Orange I get 4 mb free per month

So I always set "load page" to text only - no pictures

Just as a guide the front page showing all forum sections is apprx 1.3 mb with the pictures

I think its about £3 a meg there efter

About £8 a meg when I am in Lanzarote

At home on the bog I connect my N95 via my wireless router on Virgin cable so it costs nothing other than my Virgin monthly account and set it to include pictures

My daughters laptop is on the same wireless router at home

I had a USB dongle from T-Mobile that plugged straight in to the back of my laptop on a lead. It had a sim-card in it and used to connect via mobile to the internet. The speed was reasonable as long as you could get a mobile signal which isnt a problem these days.

I think I paid around £20 a month with a download limit of 3gig. Worked well and would recomend it.

If you are going to do it regularly then get a USB Modem or Data Card for your laptop and pay £7.50 - £25 per month. On some of the deals I can do the modem for free, but otherwise the modem is about £50 - £70.

£15 per month on Voda gives 3Gb usage per month
£25 per month on Voda gives Unlimited usage
£10 per month on Three gives 1Gb usage per month
£7.50 per month on Voda gives 10Mb usage (low users only)
                  Cheers
