  • London to Mexico 1970 Rally

    Hi all

To write an article, I'm looking for all unpublished material (photos, texts, testimonies ... etc) concerningthe London to Mexico Rally 1970.
I already have a lot of stuff. I am looking particularly articles published in the English press at the time.
If you have something in the bottom of your drawers, thank you for your assistance !

I think there is already a thread on this subject but I can't see it. Can't remember whether I posted these photos of the road book and one crew's identity sheet:

    Where are they now?
Bernard Unett, Rootes/Chrysler development driver, having already raced Sunbeam Tigers and Imps went on to be British Saloon Car Champion in a Gp1 1600 Avenger GT. He died a few years ago.
Jim Fuller drove an ex-works F2 Brabham in the 1972 Anglo-Caribbean race series and to this day holds the track record on the "short" circuit at North Dakota, Guyana. He did UK F3 in 1973, runing a BT38 out of a lock-up behind Frank Williams' unit. He lives in Antigua but hopes to drive an Alfa GTV in the UK HSCC Historic Saloon Race Series this year.
Mike Tyrell did UK F3 in 73 and 74, against several future F1 drivers including world champion Alan Jones. After getting hold of the ex-Tony Brise March, he set 4 consecutive F3 pole positions in 1974. The self-styled "Antugua's First White Rastafarian" is now serving 26 years for his part in the 2000 Isle of Wight yacht cocaine bust.

        Thank you for your posts..
I had already seen these documents ....
I would be very happy to find the presentation of the rally made by the Daily Mirror at the time.
Unfortunately, it's very complicated to have access to their archives. (and expensive...)

A pic I like very much

Think I have a CCC (Cars & Car Conversions) article on the World Cup rally somewhere. Do you have something like that?

                  hello Tim, hello Miniliteman

What you are proposing seems very interesting. Could you make some good scan (high definition)? You can send me all this in private message or to my email address.

The website of Blackpalfrey Motor Club (I think - FBF25T will probably know, as I think he featured there too) used to have some photos of its Chairman Doug Harris as last classified finisher (and only 1300 finisher) in his Escort but it seems to have been changed.
