  • MINT.....What does it mean ?.

Long story short. Six weeks ago I commited a £1000 deposit to a car I hadn,t seen. Classic specialist. car hadn,t arrived yet. One previous owner 64k fsh every Mot, signal yellow, black interior custom mk2. sounded wonderful. During the six weeks. New £400 shed in the back garden for all the gardening stuff, kids bikes, etc etc. All four walls were then emolsioned twice, ceiling plastered and painted, floor sealed with grey sealer, even bloody carpeted !!. three strips lights. The lady in my life even started to suggest it looked better than the lounge. I flew to Scotland yesterday, £20 parking £66 flight £7.50 bus £9.50 train. I was gutted. to say the least. it was nowhere my expection. by the way i had agreed £6500 for this car. Came home really ****ed off. Rang my friend he said look on that ebay thing. so i did. Its only fair to say that when i decided to buy a rs again, i knew i wanted a mk 1 any discription mk 2 pre custom car, or series 1 turbo. got on ebay, couldn,t believe it, there it was 53k series 1 turbo, 2 hours to go. I bid, I won. £4500 I thought that cant be bad. discription MINT CONDITION INSIDE AND OUT, they were the words. Rang the guy, agreed to drive Friday evening to Kent to view the car. I arrived Not bad, Until i started looking. Marks here marks there. misalignment, the list goes on. Drivers seat, dont know about "sagging" bolster, it had NO bolster !! and when i asked him on the phone, he gave the seat a 9 out of 10. speakers cut in the rear cards, wrong parcel shelf, i wont go on anymore. I came home gutted. So my question is MINT... what does it mean ?. I have been in the owners club several times over the years. ALJ 914K White Mex mk 1 owned 18 years ago. AVX 833S White pre custom mk 2, owned 17 years ago. RKK 372M Daytona Yellow with Ocre decals mk 1 rs2000 owned 16 years ago. B102 ANK White series one owned 15 years ago. and finally my bride and joy E84 CDB RS500 White. 12000 miles owned 3 years ago. does anyone except the 500 know where these cars are ?? love to know. As you can see its a WHITE thing. So can anyone offer any positive advice, or better still does anyone know anyone who had a mk 1 of any discription. mk 2 pre custom car, rollertops etc, or a series one turbo. any of those will do..... as long as its MINT. you know my budget, up to £7000 if you want to call me, please do 07789 402221, sorry to go on, but literaly half an hour ago being stuck on the m25 for three hours , on my way back from Kent. I,m a little ****ed off !!! thanks for listening.

    Hi Ian,
If you had posted a message on this site for anyone in Scotland who knows this car then you could have saved yourself a lot of time and cash.
I can tell you everything about the car in question, including how much this guy bought it for, and where. I can give you an honest and accurate opinion on most mk2`s in Scotland, having owned approx 15 over the last 19 years.
Feel free to email if you need any help on RS`s in Scotland.
    Cheers Ders.

sounds like you did not have much luck mate

I myself came over from N.Ireland looking for a car, went to see many described as excellent, or would suit concours with a small amount of work and boy did I get my eyes opened, most were full of filler with crap paint and even worse interiors.

Mint for me would ahve to be something like what a low milage 1 year old car would look like

the one I bought, I said thats the one soon as it drove towards me, it just looked right, and really I have to say I was not disappointed, I have been doing work to it as its not perfect but by god its getting better all the time and I now know every nook and cranny and have photos of them too

      good luck in your search

robrs2000's car is a nice motor its in this for sale section

        Unlucky.

There are some mint cars about, but they will seldom/never be for sale.

The word "mint" to me means as near factory condition as possible.

"Mint for it's age" is something else entirely.

Buying an old car is very difficult. Prepare to view many.

its a mine field out there, mint to me mean the condition it left the factory.

I was just lucky with my find, not mint but genuine and orginal.

Hi again, stab in the dark, i noticed a couple of weeks ago, just after Donnington, Graham John wanted to do somthing with his car, i tried to contact, and couldn,t. i believe he had a pre-custom white car, does anyone what he did with it ?? You also may have seen a advert in Classic Ford this month in the wanted bit, pre-custom car pref white, rollertops etc etc..........................yes, that was me too. So you can see i,m bloody trying !!!!! can anyone contact Graham John, i know he didn,t just want to sell it, he wanted to swap it ??, would he to a loving home, if anyone could let me know, that would be great, i,ll go away and sulk now. again thanks for the support.

Ian, Graham was looking to do a deal with a car that was track prep'd or something that could be prep'd, I did enquire about selling it but he would rather do a deal than have the cash while looking for another car (you know what it's like I'm sure, money ends up going on other things)

if you pop onto the RSOC board bbs.rsownersclub.co.uk and search for the user 'President' you can PM Graham via there.

                  hope that is of help

                    Ian,

I've only just seen this post - I'm sorry you had so much trouble with the yellow car, it looks like the restoration place selling it got a set of rear lamp outlines for free

The Nordic blue car advertised on TurboSport is really nice - it needs a little bit of work (including a front wing as there's some rust under the paint) but for the money he's asking you could buy it and have it put right for under your budget.

If you want me to have a proper look over it I am more than willing to do so.
                    Cheers Rob.
