Just a quick word of thanks to those who have started sending info in, already some interesting stuff coming in showing changes in detail from early to late spec cars, need more pics of colours and colour code letter from VIN, also trim colour and letter along with year of car . Been onto some Australian sites and trying to gather info from those guys as well.
        cheers, Paul

Cheers Gary, knew I had seen that somewhere and have been looking for it , however it does not tell the whole story.

My car for instance is Venetian Red and a 79 car, colour code on my VIN is R6 , so it doesn't tally 100% with the data on the sheet but the car itself is 100% correct.

Also early 77 Diamond white car is B and later 79 Diamond white is B3.

Need more of each colour to get a good cross section, as said I'll be out under the bonnets with my camera this year...

the numbers denote the year of colour ie B was original 73 diamond white then i think the changes to add numbers to verify this were added and B3 was exactly the same in the case of diamond white with the 3 being 1973.

R6 being venetian red from the year 76=6

the number after the colour code is the year the colour was made available

                      ie b3 white 1973

                      r6 red 1976

think they started this in August 78 as my mex only has the colour (pre aug) and the 2000 has colour and year (post aug)

                      cheers Andy

R is Venetian Red 77, so if its a 76 colour (R6 on plate) why call it venetian 77 , aint old Fords great ..

My head hurts, I'm going to bed.

Venetian Red 77 was available from May '76
Ford must have rounded it up to the end of the year 7

Same with the 3 for diamond white availble from Aug '72 i think
wonder what the code on a S1 turbo is?

Like eveything Ford, carries the mark of the first time it was used
(Part numbers pre '75) thats why theres Capri Cortina etc parts on a Escort.
