Personally I would rather have the RS / Ford one, but if Andy can get his supplier to produce ones in that style then I would be happy to go with this option if we are going to struggle to get them from Germany, or if people are wary of using the German supplier.
          Cheers

trouble being, I suspect, that the covers will be more than likely around the 200 GBP touch, not 100 + P&P

I bugged the living daylights outa Andy B for a rerun of the rs2000 ones also similar style with mexico on them, came back with a good price considering tooling etc and truth be known the tooling is the expensive part. Was on the cards to do this but got sidetracked with black wheelnuts

I agree that they will cost more if supplied from England. I am happy to buy from the German contact and if we pay the deposit by Credit Card then we are protected if the supplier doesn't deliver the goods.
                Cheers

                  • Just checked my pms and i've deleted the price Andy gave me, but I'm pretty sure they worked out the same as a burton cover plus tooling which is a one off of £400+vat, spread between 50 its a tenner. Has anyone considered import duty etc?

TBH, there shouldn't be any. If you pay the VAT (MwSt) as you only have to pay VAT once in the EU. If however the tax is either not payed or reclaimed, then VAT at 17.5% (UK) will have to be paid.

I don't see why C&E should want another chunk of tax?

                        • Guys,

as I said yesterday they are a garage, doing some motorsport with a Capri and selling parts on the side. No way you could compare them with a company like Burton's. From what the owner said I gathered that they only made a couple of small batches of those camcovers over the years.
See it like someone's sending an order for a 1000 calendars to Mogsmex ... would he ask for a payment up front?

From the postings above there's 16 camcovers that are wanted; paul andrews: I have you for a blue one, now you want black?
I guess we have a WW1 situation here: both parties in trenches not wanting to move ... (I said do not mention WW2, not 1 )

Wrt current standards (ebay), the price he wants is a bargain. Only thing is we don't know him, he doesn't know us, so a downpayment is the big issue.

So, what do you think about me asking him to reduce the payment up front to say 2000 euro and agree on the price he wants.
If he agrees you would all have to send cheques etc to taffr (or whoever) and he can make the first payment to the seller.

Or does anyone have a really good idea??

                            • As Leon says, if we don't front some of the money, we won't see any covers.

I am willing, as I said, once the price and number of covers have been agreed we can agree a contract which I and the seller can sign, so that any monies changing hands will be signed for and everybody knows where they stand legally. Again, the seller knowing that he has a contract covered by German law will think twice before turning anyone over, which I don't think will happen anyway
