what makes an original x pack

sorry for my ignorance , i am more into mk1s more than mk2s .
i keep seeing adverts etc for cars for sale genuine x pack etc , were they built at factory ford garages or what , as all of a sudden there seems to be loads around but a couple of years ago i seem to remember possibly wrongly there was only 6 known cars ?

my understanding of it is that ALL X-Pack MkII's were modified at Ford dealers, as don't forget this was a "production car", and Saarlouis didn't have a seperate AVO style setup to modify wings and rivet on fibreglass panels.

The "X-Series" parts were ordered as individual bits and not as a complete package, i.e. just the IDF's or just the electric fan etc etc.

Although there was an "Escort Spezial" in Germany, AFAIK these were also dealer modified "STD cars, you shouldn't find any SVO references or special build plates on a "Genuine X-Pack".

Only cars that have the original bill of sale listing the mods included upon delivery, qualify in my eyes as a "Genuine X-Pack".
