cheers boys , well what a event on waking up saturday and looking out the window of the digs the 1 of the lads said i bet its snowing !!! i thought oh $h1t here goes , me and rick ekin (a member of my motor club who pursuaded me to do this event) we set off to the start approx 1 1/2 miles and the roads were under 12" of water in places and the car isnt about so here and there she was taking in water but the heater saved the day and we never steamed up during the event - so off we headed upto the first to stages and onto the forest track upto the 1st stages and he was right it was snowing !!!!! are well before we knew it was 5,4,3,2,1 go and all nerves over so i thought but as we got further in ss1 we were all over the road with warning and had a few moments even taking it easy my mouth went dryer than gandies flip flop and you lads who know me that takes some doing well we cleared 1 then onto ss2 staying in the same forest just more of the same as the pics show the weather was the challenge but we were getting on in the car and i was now taking in the notes and trying more after 8 miles we had cleared ss2 just 10 miles to service on the road we had a strange noise on the rear pass on getting to service we had dave 'the custom' o neill and simon 'p+s carpets' endsor who did a perfect job after looking round the car it was noticed the halfshaft had slipped its bearing off (my fault for not welding the lock ring on the shaft first job in the week ) so the lads got stuck in and got us out of service on time with a new shaft in with a change of studs then we was off to the shortest stages of the event ss3 +4 were 1 stage run twice on the second run we were closing on the car in front a mk1 RS 2000 we cleared both stages with moments but there were cars off everywhere we were greeted by a car with his car in the ditch and the driver in the road i just missed his as it was feckin slippy and i came to a halt 4' from him the kn0b his car was his was off and out there were subaru's and evo's off and we were just getting on with the job staying on the road off back to service , fuel water and oil checked a quick brew and a porkie pie and we were off to ss5 which was ss1 when we got back upto there was a car off they had too tow out car 16 i think a group n subaru n10 ouch after a 1/2 hour delay we were off the road was slippy and in places terribly cut up we had changed the tyres we had on in the morning for some front tyres as i was told if its really muddy slippy these work better they did just that and we caught and passed the mk1 in front of us about 7 miles in we had put the lamps on in service so if it got dar k we would be fine good call down thro the trees they worked brill and the chap in the car in front pulled over asap well done that man on clearing the stage which we had attacked with a lot more vigor than the 1st run i was deflated to find i had only equally my time so off to ss6 the final stage one last push we had a good run till tha last corner a hairpin left down hill tightening on the exit i came down the box flicked the stick (hand brake) and let the clutch up just too early and stalled with the belts tight i couldnt just reach the starter button i wriggled and pressed it and lost about 5 secs but yeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhaaaaa we just had a 6 mile round section to the finish we booked in on time and shot back to service to throw the car on trailer and then back to the awards to find out how we and car 11 alex allingham / mark glennester got on enroute alex rang and said get up here so we had the shock of our lives 32 o/a and 3rd in class brilliant bloody brilliant
