Note the bore of the "2 litre" exhaust in the picture of the "2 litre" Escort...
The photos are the ones used (typically smudged and fuzzed to conceal the detail) in the FIA papers.

"Several thousand were assembled". Really? Enough to make a token stab at the claim of 500 is more like it...

I've been told (by someone who used to rally a Group 1 droopsnoot) that a standard front is also a lot lighter than the nosecone. As such it does affect the handling - don't know how true this is not having had experience of such a beast.

There were 2 phases / series (call it what you will) of mk2 RS Escorts,
        Phase 1.
        RS 1800
        RS 1800 custom
        RS Mexico
        RS 2000

        Phase 2.
        RS 2000 base
        RS 2000 custom,

Never "official" 2 litre Mexico's or flat front RS 2000's, correct me if I'm wrong.
Awful thought but I remember seeing all the mk2 RS's in the showroom at the time (and the mk1's come to think of it).....if only we could turn back the clock eh!!

              Q Reg

Keep in mind Q reg didnt come in until 1983/84. so cars built from parts before this time would get a proper reg eg X or Y instead of Q , Which the DVLA stopped this and brought in Q as people bought cars, thinking they had bought shall we say a 3 year old car from new from someone who would say they dont have the logbook, but all you have to do is apply for one. They would buy the car and probably not even notice that when the logbook comes back that it states built from not new parts, when they thought they had bought a 3 year old car from new. Hence the Q system

              hope that makes sences

(Hmm, that's interesting... I didn't know the 'Q' plate only came in then. My RS2000 is on a 'Y' registration. The Chassis no. gives a manufacture date of April 1980. I think mine was used in Germany for a bit by someone in the armed forces before being brought back to the UK and then registered with a plate of the year it was imported....)

I've told it on here too (and about better cooling) - it's somewhere early on the PHF356T thread.

correct me if im wrong but, if you went to a dealer in the day would they not have put standard wings and front end on for a fee?
seem to remember this being the case with a 4door mk1 mexico that mark had?

No reason is cost of parts.Far cheaper to use standard Escort front end after an accident than the "King of Escort" parts.
