apparently if you are a registrar you will come to the home address of anyone wanting a value on there car! paull ruddy please be at mine at 8.30 am on sat morning i will pay your fuel bill only! see you then paul(mk2 reg)! make sure its a diesel you come in as got a max of £20 to cover your costs!

What you need to say to yourself is if the worse happened and your car was stolen, how much would it cost for you to replace it with something you will be happy with (mk2 or otherwise) and go from there.
Valuations will always be dodgy ground as one man's pride and joy is another man's worst nightmare.

If you can prove what you have spent then take into account wear & tear the insurance company might offer you near your outlay.
Best to keep every receipt for all you items in a nice folder and as you go inform your insurance company, that way they have no come back to say that wasn't listed.
