  • Passivating?

    Hi all,

We are thinking of getting all the small parts under the bonnet on the MK2 plated or is it called passivated?
Anyway, its that gold colour that things were originally, clips etc.

Does anyone have or is able to send me any good pictures or a list of parts that should be done that way please?

    thanks

    Hi Joe

    Process is electroplating mate

not very costly if you get a lot of bits done at once

Silver colour is known as zinc plating and the gold is known as gold zinc

My advice is clean parts up with wire brush if pitting is to bad (Where rust has been) , look for better bolts or parts. As it shows up quite bad once plated .

Plenty of pics on this site of detalled engine bays showing right colours

Joe, get as much done together as poss, as said already, works out alot cheaper and you will get the exact same colour for all parts

take a sample of the correct colour as the process is also determined in the amount of time/heat that a item is subjected to, too long and the item comes out with a blue tinge to it,

Thanks guys. Have been looking at Worthers for an idea of what parts. We are not going to even try to emulate anything like that which is just amazing, we are just going for nice and clean where possible and currently the parts like engine lifters are black and other bits are just rusty etc so aiming to brighten things up a bit.
