    Kev

you mentiond in one of my posts that if need be i could borrow a " puller" off you for getting the halfshafts out of the axle , well would it be possible to borrow said item ?

Are you going to national day?

    cheers

Gaz, have you tried heating up the area of the axle wher the internal bearing sits? It's the last outer 5cm of the axle casing. I found that no amount of banging or pulling got my halfshafts out but, when I applied gentle blow torch heat all round both of them just about fell out on their own with no puller required. You might like to give it a go like that if you can't get the puller for the mo.

Yes i did try this method and still couldnt get the H/S out , i only heated it a very little bit though , might try it a bit hotter.

Sorry Gaz, Not looked at this thread for a while. Do you still need the puller? Let me know, Kev.

to get my half shafts out,i took rear drum off,
took out the 4 h/shaft bolts, bolted back on an old wheel,
gut underneath car with hammer, span wheel and tapped
wheel rim with hammer. took 4 or 5 smacks, then popped out.
                try this, simple.
                cheers.

Gaz, I've been there, wrote the book, starred in the musical and won a coconut!

My sympathies. I also had my axle on the bench when I thought I was going to have to saw it in half to get the bloody halfshafts out!

                    a) have you bolted the differential back on - as in a previous post you'd undone the nuts?

                    b) I suspect the "puller" in question might be a slide hammer as I don't know a puller which would do this job. If it is a slide hammer, then you'll be faced with the same problem of having to stop the differential and axle moving on the bench.

                    c) again (I know it's getting boring!) the ONLY way I could get mine to budge was a blow torch applied all around the area where the bearing sits. Not a ferocious flame, but a constant and gradual build up of heat all around the 360° of the axle casing at that point. Since my first b*!+ard I've apllied the torch each time and all the other halfshafts have just popped out. Burn, baby, burn!

It helps if you can find some wedges or something to jam between the halfshaft flange and axle casing to continuously apply a force to the halfshaft whilst heating.

                      I had a similar problem

                      My solution

I strapped the axle casing down tight on the back of the recovery truck at work.

Attached the recovery winch cable to the halfshaft.

                      Pulled the winch tight

The hit the axle casing once with a big hammer

Half shaft shot out like a bullet from a gun - lol lol lol lol

JUst stand well clear - but at least it worked

The tool I have is a proper half shaft puller. Bolts directly to the shaft then all you have to do is slide hammer it out......Dead easy.

Gaz, Is there any way you could pop the axle over my way? Could do it for you there and then.
