Well, how many Brits or Japs compete in WRC/foreign rallies? They are LHD because most of the world and most of the drivers, drive LHD.
I drive both a left hooker and a RHD car. The left hooker is far more natural to drive, changing gear with the right hand.

Many cars are designed for lhd and simply cannot be converted because various bits are in the wrong place.
Many road cars of course are also a bodge when converted to rhd - a lot of current French cars' windscreen wipers are simply wrong for rhd, early rhd Golf Gti brakes worked by an horrendous bar across the car etc.
Tony Pond was offered a works Toyota drive for 1981 (a time when Toyota had just been leading the RAC Rally ahead of the much-vaunted eventual winner, Toivonen) but Pond demanded a rhd car. They felt they couldn't produce one without compromising other aspects of it and he was lucky to pick up the only remaining serious seat (DTV).
